http://www.jacmusic.com/ - Have not purchased anything from them but I was doing similar search for 7n7 to 6sn7 adapter and came across their site.  I believe they have it for under 5 bucks.

39 Euro each.  See line #860 in pricelist.  Too bad.  I wanted some!  But they are nice and both ends are gold plated.  I'm sure they're worth the price but they don't make using the 7n7 economical anymore.

I was looking at the prices for 7N7 both TubeDepot and www.vacuumtubes.net have them listed for 8 bucks.  So if we are able to find adapter at reasonable cost (for me < that is under 25).  TubeDepot currently do not carry the adapter but directed me to Vacuumtubes.net.  Email message sent to Vacuumtubes to see if they have any adapters.  If not will continue looking :)

Ok, just talked to Barry @ Vacuumtubes they do not carry adapters :(.  They do have about 100 or so 7N7 in stock.

Cheapest option, $17 each shipped:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-Gold-plated-7N7-7F7-TO-6SN7-6SL7-tube-adapter-for-you-amp-free-shipping-/190828105681?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item2c6e3dcfd1

Given that I have a decent stash of good 6SN7s already and also given that good 6SN7s can be had for under $30 each...

http://tctubes.com/6SN7-ECC32-5692-VT231-tubes.aspx

...I don't know if the extra pin connection and hassle are worth it.  I guess if you can find some of the 7n7 versions of uber pricey 6sn7s (like those mentioned here:  http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=120726.0 ) it would make sense but most tube sites I've perused just say "various American brands" under 7n7.  Let us know if you find any sources that make it more worthwhile.

Best of luck!

Agreed on the adapter v/s good 6sn7 tubes.  I am just researching 7n7/6sn7 options right now.  I really do not have any equipment which has ability to use either tubes but plan to acquire one soon.

Great job researching this! I have been experimenting with vintgage 6SN7's and have found a great sound. I may look into the 7N7 some more. Tubes are reasonable, but which tubes? Sylvania's plus adapters are about the price of 6SN7's.

From my research so far 7N7 are either made by Sylvania or National Union.  NU tubes are hard to find.

I have requested clarification from Jacmusic to find out exactly what the cost for the adapter is since the price list seems to indicate one part number row 72 (part number 399-103-71 for 2 Euro's) while row 860 is listed as 39 Euro.  The adapters are hand built as custom order according to from earlier email exchange.

I think what line 72 says is that the loctal socket is about 2 euro.  But not the adaptor since each adapter requires a socket, pins in a body of some sort, internal wiring  and labor.

Another option would be to change out your 6sn7 octal sockets in your amp or pre for loctal ('Locking OCTAL') sockets.  If you're handy that would be nice-and-cheap but if Shadowlight is right about 7n7 manufacturers then you've severely limited your rolling capabilities by doing this.  Again, it might make sense if you found 7n7 versions of super-expensive 6sn7s.  What might be really cool is to make a diy amp/pre with both octal and loctal sockets.......or just get the adaptors!

I wonder if one could do a DIY project and make the adapters? I just don't know how to make these look professional, but if the right parts are found? So far, I haven't found what I need.

Yep, line 72 is socket and the adapter is 39 euro's too rich for me.  For now will stick with lower cost 6sn7 :)
