The regular price will be $40/cabinet. For the first batch of 12 pairs, they will be offered at $33/cabinet. Once Danny has tested out the cabinet and any revisions are complete, I'll setup a pre-order for the first dozen pairs.

Count me in on a pair of the flat packs.

Anyone jump ahead two steps and look at an appropriate amp for these?  One that can fit in box?  One that can fit behind computer?  Class D?, Small Tube for fun?

Thoughts.

This little amp has been generating quite a bit of buzz.
It's not switching and apparently sounds quite good.
Not sure how much power, but for the desktop it may be fine.
Best thing is it's cheap.

Not very little but this is what I'm currently using to drive my desktop speakers (N1X) and subwoofer. I will probably continue to use it seeing as it is a two channel amp and the office is the only two channel setup I have. All my other systems are multichannel HT (5.1 & 7.1).

OK, at 150wpc it would be just a tad overkill  :o but it's way too good an amp not to use

A good smallish amp that would also have a preamp out to feed a subwoofer would allow me to conduct an interesting experiment. Currently my wife uses a Bose Companion 5 for her desktop system. I would like to see what she thinks between it and these new speakers.

I have no idea what type of sub to mate with these new speakers. For desktop use space is going to be an issue. The Bose bass unit is 9"H x 7"W x 16"D. Physical size wise I have a sealed Von Schweikert VR-S1 10" servo sub in one of my systems upstairs that would be perfect. It is 12"H x 11"W x 14"D. I could use it for the experiment but I couldn't leave it there.

Danny, would your new 8" servo sub design be appropriate for use with these new speakers in a desktop setup?

Maybe a little expensive for a desktop system, but the new Virtue Audio One.3 is now in the works.   It has a sub out.  I am currently using a ONE.2 in my desktop setup driving DIY single driver speakers and a sub.  It sounds great, but I can't wait to try these new drivers.

Here are the details on the new One.3:   http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=122425.0

Here is a TPA3116 that has been getting lots of good buzz, complete and delivered for $58.  about 50 wpc with 100w to the sub.

I really like the Trible knob, I wonder if they multiply as you turn it up?  :dunno:

My gosh, a fellow geek.  Turning the trible off is the problem.

As you turn it up, if there is too much sibilance you may have to turn the Volvme down.

S Clark, I am a big fan of all of the TV series and the movies. Deep Space 9 was my least favorite, who wants to be stuck on a space station?

It's odd that someone would go to the trouble of making a case for an amp and not get the spelling correct on the face of it. I can see the instructions having typos, but the front of the amp?

It's just laziness.  Either ask someone who speaks English or better yet look at some of the millions of images of other components on the Internet with English legends --- before going into production.

Re: Dayton DTA-120 amplifier:
This one looks a little more interesting to me than the DTA-100a because
1. The DTA-120 60W/ch @ 4ohm rating is at .1% THD, whereas the DTA-100a 50W @ 4ohm rating was at 5% THD.
2. The DTA-120 has multi-way binding posts whereas the DTA-100a had flush mounted jacks that accepted banana plugs only.

I have been working with the test boxes all day today, and made a few modifications.

The port did not work out in the front too well. Overtones carried over much to high, and caused a peak in the 200Hz range that I didn't like.

So I plugged the port hole in the front and cut a new one in the back. This worked out real well.

The response is slightly smoother if the port is sealed. And the spectral decay looks slightly cleaner in the lower ranges with the port sealed. Either way though looks great. The decay rate is really fast. So these things are going to sound super clean. There is no cone break up or stored energy anywhere either. So no ringing. And I got the response to within +/-1db all the way up to 5kHz. Above that there is a dip and some small peaks, but they are pretty small. Still within +/-3 peak to peak. And the peaks being that high up really don't bother me too much.

Here is a response curve on axis.

Here is on axis, 10, 20, 30, and 40 degrees off axis. Since the driver is fairly small the off axis response looks real good especially compared to larger full range drivers where the off axis response dies immediately leaving hot spots right in front of the speakers.

And here is the spectral decay. This is cleaner than about 99% of the speakers out there.

I think you guys are going to be floored by these little speakers.

I see the applications for these going way beyond the desk top. I think these are going to be great for small theater systems, sound bars for TV's, and stand alone sub/sat systems for small rooms.
