Don't understand the negativity, first off if it is an Eminence driver at that pricepoint it shouldhold it's own. As far as ART, I thought there were alot of cool designs. Maybe Bose should startoffering a product like this, just kidding but at $399 with custom graphics you want to bash it?
From a purely technical point of view, it is a very poor design concept for an OB. The bass below 200 Hz will be severely compromised if not non existent. Cute and appealing idea for the masses more interested in looks and coolness, for people looking for something unique to impress friends without too much audio savvy. From an high end audio performance perspective it is just a bad concept.
I don't think they're trying to create something technologically or sonically better than "proper" speakers that can be had for $400, as much as they're just trying to create something, different, simple, and fun ; An entry product for many (likely younger people). We all started this hobby somewhere and it was probably with something we thought sounded great, only to find out later it was garbage. I know I did 15+ years ago. I can pretty much guarantee that these speakers sound better than what I had. Who cares that the target consumer doesn't understand all the technological or sonic shortcomings of the design. The one's who care, or learn to care later, will maybe explore better sound and better speakers in the future, like I did. The others, well, let them be blissfully ignorant. I hate Beats headphones, Monster Cable, Bose and Best Buy just as much as the next guy. The main problem I have with all those brands listed is that they are manipulative marketing driven companies. The company making these OB speakers, though technologically no more superior, isn't boasting bogus claims about their product (from what I can tell). What I see is an honest attempt at bringing entry level hifi to a younger generation. Like Apple products, this company has done away with the technobabble in favor of simplicity and dare I say "humanness" to create an approachable product ; One that people will not be intimidated to touch, play with, and own............which is key to those starting down the path we're on.
