rajacat - You make my point for me - there is holding on every play both at the line and downfield. Everyone on both teams is trying to cheat to their advantage on every down, every team. The refs can therefore be selective about which penalties they call, thereby steering the outcome. At will, they can create a first down or grant a replay of down. They can let a long return stand or call it back. Same with PI calls - just apply as needed to steer it in a preselected direction. I'm convinced that's why there are so many patently ridiculous calls being exposed this year. That fumble call where Navorro Bowman was the only person to possess the football is a great example. How the hell could Seattle be granted the ball in that situation? They never even touched it.
