rajacat - You make my point for me - there is holding on every play both at the line and downfield. Everyone on both teams is trying to cheat to their advantage on every down, every team. The refs can therefore be selective about which penalties they call, thereby steering the outcome. At will, they can create a first down or grant a replay of down. They can let a long return stand or call it back. Same with PI calls - just apply as needed to steer it in a preselected direction. I'm convinced that's why there are so many patently ridiculous calls being exposed this year. That fumble call where Navorro Bowman was the only person to possess the football is a great example. How the hell could Seattle be granted the ball in that situation? They never even touched it.

So you're equating pro football with WWF wrestling?  It's all fixed?

Haven't followed wrestling since before high school many years ago so I can't say what they do but I am convinced that there are preferred outcomes in NFL games and that the officiating is used to guide the results.

You're expecting perfection from refs in a very fast moving game with strict time restrictions. The players aren't perfect and neither are the refs. It happens in all sports. You're also saying that they're deliberately tilting the playing field in one direction or the other. I don't think this is the case. If it was there would be a huge uproar from the losing coaches and there would be criminal investigations. Do you have any proof to support your allegations other than anecdotes and happenstance?

I don't believe the referee 'conspiracies' angle at all.  This doesn't mean that I think it's impossible for individual ref's to have their own 'agendas' (in all sports), usually tied to gambling, but in general I believe they're trying to do the right thing.  That said, was it me or did the number of blatantly wrong calls increase this past season?

Where did the fun go?

Too many instant replays, too much TV coverage that questions everything, too many silly rules about what can be reviewed and what can't, too many new 'safety' rules (this is a collision sport played by big/fast guys, what do you expect?).

Too much money involved (which greatly influences college football).  Better to have salaries in-line with what the average fan earns and just take it all less seriously.  Let's make some real world people (fire fighters, soldiers, doctors) our heros, not jocks for playing games.

I think the commercial that you can't delete may be the best part.

It might be be interesting to see what defensive schemes Denver comes up with Sunday.  All the talk I've heard on the telly is about Seattle's defense.  Both defenses will try and keep it a low scoring game, surely.  Denver is pretty one dimensional on offense and with enough reason, of course, but that Seattle defense doesn't seem to have any seams in it.  Denver by a touchdown against any secondary except, maybe, this one.  Should be fun.

So here's my latest take on the game.  It opened with a pick 'em then quickly moved to -2.5 points for Denver and has stayed there steady for two weeks.  The money is heavily Denver and that has stayed steady there as well.  My analysis put's Denver at -1.5 points, but what's interesting is two facts.  In the playoffs, Seattle is plus 3 in turnovers and Denver is -2.  And Denver has a +213 yd differential over Seattle, combining offense and defense in the playoffs.  Seattle actually has a negative 66 yd diferencial against their opponents, suggesting they needed every one of those 3 extra turnovers.  So it comes down to can Seattle's LOB force Manning into turnovers either by pressure or scheme.  If they can't, they have no shot.  All throughout the year Seattle's offense cannot score more than 17 points without turnovers from the defense, all of their loses they either lost the turnover battle or were equal, all of their wins they won the turnover battle.  Manning can score from wherever on the field you give him the ball and will generate points and yards regardless of what his defense does.  So I'll predict a Denver win, covering the spread 27-17.  If I'm wrong and Seattle forces Manning into the turnovers that will kill his team, it's all on him and derails his legacy of greatest quarterback of all time, while a win solidifies it.  Way more than just a Superbowl at stake today, a historical game whatever the outcome.

Either Seattle by 2 points or Denver by 2 touchdowns.

Awfully quiet around here. Half down, half to go, but we're still playin' against the MVP and one of the best of all time. Keep on truckin', Go SeaHawks   :thumb:

Game is OK - might be interesting or a real snooze-fest depending on Denver.

The half-time show musically is all over the place.   Bleah.

I get tired of these "spectacles" parading as music.

I am used to seeing blow outs at the Super Bowl, but I am surprised at the score of this game!

With 2 minutes left in the first half, I volunteered to go clean the kitchen. Not worth watching so far.

This is public humiliation!  I can't wait to see the look on that horse toothed jackass Elway after the game.  For the record, I picked Denver to win and I'm surprised by how bad they look. This is the same team who set passing and TD records, getting blown out.  Still, it's fun to see the commercials and I enjoyed the halftime show.  At least they didn't trot out some washed up losers like Bon Jovi or that hag/tranny Lady Gaga.

Cheers
