Stuff you didn't know you wanted from Monoprice?
« on: 28 Aug 2013, 03:27 pm »
Anyone got thoughts on small audio items that you want to have on hand but didn't know you wanted it until you thought gee I should have bought one of those last time I placed an order for a bunch of other stuff on Monoprice. I am about to place an order for a few goodies.

For example once I bought a USB cable extender that comes in handy when trying to use a funky shaped thumb drive and a 3.5mm plug extension cord.

Russ,

Are you thinking about getting that mixer?

I'm wondering how it compares to others such as Allen Heath's. :)

I haven't used it so I don't know how well it works or how it quiet it is.  Noise from cheap power supplies and cascading multiple gain stages are the biggest issue with inexpensive mixers.

It's feature rich for the under $100 mixer category so it might be worth checking out if you need something like that.

Well, not sure if they are of much interest, but I am looking at these:

HDMI switcher box
HDMI cable
coax-to-opticial (and vice-versa) converter

Roscoe,
I use their HDMI cables in my HT set-up. Build quality seems well above average and they look and sound fine to me....but I am a bit of a tightwad when it comes to HT. Also use their USB cable from computer to DAC for Pandora Prem.. Once again, no complaints. here.

Roscoeiii,
Be careful with which Monoprice HDMI switcher you choose. I bought the 4-outlet HDX-401E model and had issues with it working with my WS TV media player and Xbox. I gather it's worse with a PS3. The remote had no range at all but I used my Harmony One remote with it, which improved the situation, but it refused to output 1080p, only 1080i, despite the website description. I eventually switched to a Kinivo 5-port HDMI switch  and the Monoprice switch is now gathering dust.

I also use 4 of their regular HDMI cables and have had "sparklies" with only one. On the other hand, their Redmere powered HDMI cables are superb. I'm happily using a 30-foot one for my projector.
cheers.

I've used bigger A&H's, I'd imagine (quality-wise across the board) that they would better the Monoprice offering.

At the C&C price of the MP unit, I'd tend toward it for home use.

The A&H unit works a treat in the field, as it were.  :thumb:

I use their HDMI cables in my recently built HT.  I have a 50 footer, and a 25 footer in play as we speak.

Good stuff, and affordable.
