I pulled the top in order to take some photos, but just found out that I can't upload from my hard disk to these posts.

Sure you can upload 'em...

Bubba996, thanks for the info on uploading.  Here are two photos, one of the inside and one of the cheap connectors.

Looks like I still don't quite get it.  At any rate, you can paste the URL into your browser and see the photos.

How about this?

First glance at the innards from the photo remind me of the compact all-in-one stereos of the late 70's-early 80's. Stuff like Electrophonic and Symphonic, even Emerson.

The output ICs look like the old STK power ICs of that period.

Can you get a look at what is written on the output IC,s jswallac?

Okay, my amp was loaded onto the FedEx truck for delivery @ 6:51 a.m., so I should get it this afternoon!  :hyper:   Hope it works!

I certainly doesn't look like a digital amp.  It appears to have a standard linear power supply and as Wayne mentioned it looks it uses IC power modules. I don't see any inductors big enough to indicate a digital output stage in this picture.

It looks like there is a thick coating of dust on the board, like it's been sitting around for a long time. It will be interesting to see what those output devices are.

Yeah, doesn't look like SOTA digital.  :?   We'll see.  Like I said, at least the scratch & dent version was only $50-60.

I could not get the pic's to come up. Are there any preliminary listening impressions yet?

I guess you cannot expect much from a $180 Digital Amp. I wonder why they decided to use such a big box for such a small component. If there are no fans and only heastsinks that could be why.

Not anywhere close to a 'digital' amp.  Those were in these all in one rack systems 10+ years ago.  Those are Sanken or STK power amps, standard cheap fare for the period.  Have seen those in 'rent to own' type rack systems.   If it was advertised as a digital amp, send it back..  someone's stupid or perhaps dishonest.     aarrgghhh

Scott is absolutely right. After looking at the photo for a bit, the "large" transformer is in the "power amp" to supply power to all the other "components" in the rack. That is what the other connector is in the photo with the RCAs

There was probably a dual well cassette deck and maybe an EQ with lots of lights.

They are advertised as digital amps.  http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=SX9860  But as you note, they are not even close.  The one I got was from a place that moves returned equipment.  Based on the accumulation of dust inside, it had been around a long time.  The sound was really better than I would expect from this sort of thing, but certainly nothing to put up with its looks.  Mine was picked up today by FedEx within my 10 day return period.  I am out shipping, but probably better than going the eBay route.  Live and learn.

'Fraid so.  I just go mine & haven't even hooked it up, and it's clearly & obviously false advertising.  Not sure whether to send it back or not as cheap  as it was (and having to pay return shipping).

C'est la vie, I guess.

Bummer. Sorry for the bad experience. At least it was cheap enough...

I feel bad for the people who took the risk for all of us.  That just really sucks that they would label the amp that way.

As much as I would agree with the C'est le vie (sic obviously as I am not french!) attitude, I would return it for principal of making them realize that you are not about to let them get away with such nonsense and blatant false advertising.
