shengya is 350+125 shipping and tax if in ny-or about 500$-
the kavent 731 has a $799 list price but ive seen the actual price of $599  from him on agon so for about 100$ you get  the  3 year warranty.

I really like the ShengYa.  This week, I'm comparing the ShengYa with using my Pioneer Elite DVD as transport to an Ack Dack.  Hey, what kind of tube do you recommend for the ShengYa?

Thanks!  I'll give one of these a try.  I think sometime toward the end of this year, I might take all my cables and send them to get cryoed.  I'll probably order a new tube so that I receive the tube prior to sending everything to get cryoed and I'll also have the tube done.  Other than this, though (and the Ack Dack if I like it), my next purchases are all going to be room treatments.

i paid 425$ total with tax before the increase-300$ for unit, 100$ shipping and 25$ tax.

I also paid $425, but that was maybe two months ago.  I think this is a nice unit.  I'm comparing an Ack Dack D/A with it, and the ShengYa is pretty darn close, which is great when you consider that the Ack Dack is over $500, and that doesn't include a transport.

The build quality of Shengya puts most High Prices so called High End to shame.

I have owned both the Sheng Ya CD-S10 & the Kavent CD-731. Cosmetic differences aside they are the same player.

They actually use two tubes. The 12AU7 is for the power supply and the 6922/6DJ8/7308 is for the output. I rolled a lot of different tubes through them and I preferred the Mullard 6DJ8 for the output and an RCA "Cleartop" 12AU7 for the PS.

They are very nice CDP's IMO. Great bang for your buck. I purchased both of mine used.

I've since upgraded to the new Sheng Ya S-10CS. It uses four tubes: (2) 6DJ8 (output), (1) 12AX7 (PS), & (1) 12AU7 (Headphone output).

A definite improvement over the old player in SQ.

Upgrade the output caps too, it made a HUGE difference over the solens that were in there.

I really enjoyed it, I had it for about a year, and then started the quest for something better, it took another year, and there were some VERY high end offerings that I didn't like as much.  I was using an EH output tube.

Standard Sonicaps, not platinums.  Same value.

I got an Ayre CX-7e.  IMO the best player south of 10K asside from the other Ayre players.

Pretty standard player, but a really good clocking system and output stage, and a power supply that looks more at home in a 100W amp.

No HDCD, No SACD, No DVD-A, just awesome redbook.

The Ayre is 2950.00, so 10x the cost!!! !!!.  I paid much less than that, but if you are in that kind of market, you have to listen to it.  I compared it to quite a few and had it in my system for about a month before buying it, so I got a pretty solid audition in.

Yes, that would be $480.00 worth of caps.  The caps in the Ronin don't cost quite that much!!!
