ZYX In The House
« on: 15 Aug 2013, 05:29 pm »
This morning, I just mounted this brand, new ZYX R100H Yatra MC Cartridge on to my JMW 10.5i Tonearm. Tracking at 2 grams, it sounds startling good right out of the box... a little tight, but we'll have to revisit after 50 hours... and some fine tuning.  :thumb:

Nice looking cart.  I had a Soundsmith retipped R1000 Arie3 for a while and I liked it.  I remember the sound being linear (meaning accurate without implying leanness) and it being a good tracker.  Enjoy.   :thumb:

WooHoo!!!  What made you get a new cartridge?  Did "Maggot Brain" sound deficient?

Congratulations on the new cart and keep us informed.

Another big ZYX fan here. I am running a 4D I got a great deal on. And I am a huge fan of Mehran who imports these to the US. I got my Moerch tonearm from him.

Congratulations !!

Another winner from Nakatsuka.  ZYX stands for three axis in physics or something like that:
http://www.zyx-audio.com/

Maestro performances of the past re-born for us to enjoy today and for the future.

The ZYX quest is to realize the full potential of analog playback which is the only medium that gives us a continuous time axis signal (Z).
Modern digital playback systems have a time axis which is intermittent. Even though
the digital sampling rates are very fast, they are still intermittent.

Grains of natural sound flow into a living three dimensional soundstage, like strings of
 diamonds and pearls.

……ZYX insists on the consistency of Time (Z), Amplitude (Y) and Frequency (X)

Don't you just love it?   :thumb:

very ironic these posts...I had the Airy 3 R1000 X SB...
going back to a Shelter...not sure if it's the right move or not.  Hopefully the Shelter 7000 will give me what I am looking for.
The R1000 airy was a splendid cart!

Well... it's only my second morning waking up with the new ZYX R100H Yatra cartridge. I'm in the process of putting only my third hour on the illustrious cart. Initially, I am struck by the speed and immediacy of this cartridge. As I mentioned earlier, I can hear that it sounds a little "tight" in the lower mids and the low end. I was kinda expecting that until the cartridge loosened up after putting some real play time on it. Nonetheless, this little, red guy sounds astonishing well (in my system) right out of the box. Sparkle, Punch, PRAT. It is not dry. Fairly neutral with a touch of warmth.

It's a helluva lot of fun! I am comparing to: Transfiguration Axis, Transfiguration Phoenix, Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood, Clearaudio Maestro Wood and Sumiko Blackbird... all of which I've used in the last three years. Even from the get-go, this ZYX is starting out as a serious contender for my fav so far. In the ZYX choice, I tried to pick a cart with a lot of bang for the buck without breaking the bank. Those Transfiguration cartridges are quite a bit more expensive than the the R100 Yatra, but this just might, actually, maybe, perhaps be more of the sound I am fantasizing for...

More later!  :thumb:

What led you to got to a Shelter from the ZYX? Anything in particular you were hoping to get from the Shelter?

Yea... Since Tuan and I both use VPI JMW 10.5i tonearms and VPI tables, I'd be interested in hearing a little more about this too.

Well, I think and I only had the Airy for only about 30 hours on it, it was used an had another 50 or so...but I remembered that my 901 had a larger more precise soundstage and more depth!  The ZYX has more micro dynamics and was definitely more extended...and punchier.  I guess I am hoping the new crop of Shelter cartridge will give me some of the warmth I seek as I loved the 501 and the 901, it was just a tad too hot for my set up.  We'll see...

That and the fact that I can't sit still with the same equipment...   :duh:

So, when it's up and running, I will let you know what I hear!

Another thing, I don't know about you guys, but something of a "plastic" body to a cart is not attractive to me...unfortunately...
Am I just vain?

I agree with BISL, that picture needs to be on the home page of ZYX website. Wow! Audio porn to remember!

Congrats on the new cart!

No, I kinda feel the same, but I haven't heard one.
