Wow, I'm intrigued by the talk of a diagonal setup. It's something I've considered trying (along with the placement on either side of that 6'2" opening, firing left-to-right) but it would have to be done in the smaller room on the left. One thing that's not shown in the diagram is the fireplace in the middle of the 14'11" wall.
As I find time over this coming week, I'll experiment a bit and report back...
