According Japanese reseach the maximum of definition that the human eye can perceive is 33 mega pixels, above that the human eye does not perceive any image enhancement.

And as many person that use glasses DVD is good enough to me, anything better than DVD is useless, superfluous and unwanted.8)

4K TV resolution is only about 8 megapixels, so you're saying that we should have gone from 1080p straight to 8K ?   ;)

No, if it is just 8mp there is space for improvment yet.
On most homes full HD is good enough, in my small room Iam happy with dvd resolution.

These videos improvments are so fast it looks futile, I would like audio quality could do advancements like this.

So how big is your TV (screen's diagonal)?

* High-res audio from Blu-rays is pretty good right now. ...What could be improved are the people who do the movie mixing/recording. ...The vast majority of them.

And how far are you from it? ...Your eyes from the surface of the screen?

Your Toshiba CRT, does it have HDMI connection? ...Components Video connection? ...S-VHS connection? ...Composite Video connection?
... 480i, or 240i video resolution?

* My hi-def screen (LCD 1080p) is 27" in diagonal (Samsung PC monitor), and my eyes are 24" from it (up to 30" max.).
{I also have a Samsung 1080p plasma 60" 3D, but I'm sitting seven feet from it (too far).}

=> Next for me is an OLED front projector (or flat panel) 4K & 3D with a ten foot diagonal screen.

I've seen a bunch of those at Salvation Army stores and thrift shops; about five bucks each!

* Composite video; that's good, you can plug a VCR or even a DVD player with composite video out (an older one).
...Resolution is about 240 lines or so; on a good day when the news are good and the people are happy.

** Ever thought of upgrading your life (screen)?  :green:  ...It's only a joke on the good side of humor (in case).

A little rib rubbing is Ok, but be nice! It's audiocircles after all - not AVS!

Oh, I am real nice; I can assure you of that. ...You would love to hang out with me at the local strip joint.

And I'm not sure why you even had to mention it.

* What's AVS? ...And some's wrong with it?

You need to bring it down a couple notches. You've been like this in several threads now.

AVS forum..... got too lazy to type it out. Nothing wrong with it, just they are more the videophools vs the more audiophools over here. In a bar fight though.... I'll take our turntables and heavy tube amps over their slide rules and pocket protectors!

Certainly I'm sure at many points in time I've been guilty of being a bit too enthusiastic and my remarks may have been taken the wrong way unintentionally. So of course now I'm the expert in pointing it out elsewhere if I think I see it

I did not consider upgrade yet because your country infested worldwide TV with crap like action films, nudes and actors teaching obscenities.
Seems you give high value to your video life.
Have you try friends, pets and music?

Yes Mr. moderator. ...No more fun humor from me, forever, and everywhere. ...I promise. ...I'll be always serious from now on, and behave exactly the same way everyone else here at AudioCircle do. ...Which is very civil and respectful.
- I thought I was, but I guess I did not see from your perspective. ...And that I shall always see all the people's perspective.

Bob

Yes, Cinema is a big hobby of mine.

I do have few friends, I am surrounded by wildlife (many animals; free), and music is also another big hobby of mine.

Now back to our main topic: Why 4K is Stupid

Like I said before; for me it ain't stupid at all, to the contrary, it is expanding our vision (visual picture) for the much better visual/enriching experience.

Dear audiofreaks,
I've been following this forum for a while but this post seems a bit off to me,
in 2007 there was the SI-2K a larger than 1920-1080 24P camera which was used for 127 hours as well as slumdog millionaire,
so there is material larger than HD for years already. At the same time in 2007 RED came out with the RED ONE a 4K camera.
That one is been used by thousands of tv and film production houses world wide.
Anyhow.... it's 2013 already and guess what: we have 6K and 8K camera's in use.
It's not only the pixels that count but also the size of the chip(s) that are in use by the camera; the larger the chip the shallower the depth of field, we've reached the size of a 6X6 medium format camera chipwise and still every year new amazing state of the art camera's come out to battle the field that once was dominated by 35mm motion picture.

Red One
Red Epic
Phantom 645
SI-2K
Weisscam
