FWIW I just went to see Pacific Rim for the third time last night!   What can I say?  It's about as much fun as I've had at the movies since I was a kid.

I can't wait for the Blu-ray to come out.

Which actor are you referring to?  That's the only real flaw I saw in 12 Years a Slave, too.  Cumberbatch and Fassbender are superb actors but their intermittent American southern accents were pretty comical.

Well, there were two of them (the father/son Jaeger pilots). They were both pretty bad but the father was the one really making me cringe. They really were absolutely, unbelieveably, laughably atrocious. They could have just altered the story, there was no essential reason for them being Australian that I could tell.

Other than that I enjoyed the movie! I did actually watch it twice. I needed to do that to get through my rejection of the silliness of the premise "oh look, these 50-meter tall aliens are invading our planet, let's build 50-meter tall robots and have punch-ups with them." And the cringing with the accents. Once I did that, it was great fun.

I think that Raleigh was also supposed to be Australian but I could be wrong.  I wasn't quite sure if he was using an accent or just has a strange way of speaking.  I guess he's on a popular American TV show but I've never seen it.  Yeah, I don't know why there supposed to Australian; they probably just wanted to get as many non-American characters in there as they could to make sure to get the foreign sales.

Obviously the film has some silly parts but it was such fun!  The only movie I've ever watched three times in the theater!

Didn't notice anything about Raleigh, but I guess I'm just not tuned to that. I wasn't sure quite what Pentecost was supposed to be, he shifted around, but it didn't clash with the storyline (that I recall).

Three times in the cinema! T2 is the only one for me. But I'm sure I'll watch this one again. Just for fun

Oh, I forgot to mention, the other "what were they thinking / oh heck our audience is dumb as bricks anyway" moment was the creature breaking through the "coastal wall" in Sydney. Anyone that knows the slightest thing about Sydney knows that the Opera House is nowhere near the ocean!

That's funny. Maybe that was some kind of a private joke 'cause nowadays I just assume everyone on TV in the US is Australian. For once the tables got turned!

Have you seen Flight of the Conchords? There's a very very funny episode where a fruit seller refuses to sell one of them an apple because he thinks he's Australian. In the end, it all works out OK when the misunderstanding is resolved. (They are Kiwis).
