These RCA shorting plugs are a dead short
Inserting these plugs will short-circuit the input and stop any RF noise from getting inside the circuit. With the shorting plugs installed you will improve the S/N ratio which can lead to a dramatic improvement in sound quality. If the inputs on your particular preamp use relays to short them when not in use these plugs will offer no sonic benefit.
Hmmm. Interesting that Take Five sells those now. I got this recipe off of their site about a year ago and that work great on my audio research LS7 preamp. Why they choose the 470 ohm resistor I don't know but they work fine. The link is still up under DIY Recipes and tips. Cost me about $1.50 each to make.http://www.takefiveaudio.com/mall/shopcontent.asp?type=RCA_Input_shorting_plugsI've also used the dead shorting plugs in the past on a different preamp. I've never experienced any problems using either type. I don't use them any more because all my inputs are being used.
