B100 Passthrough without Bryston Remote
« on: 23 May 2013, 10:18 pm »
I have just acquired a B100 SST second hand and while I'm loving the sound I have been very frustrated trying to work out a way to switch to passthrough mode for one of the inputs. This is a key reason I went with a B100.

I have a Logitech Harmony and have downloaded the codeset from their DB but it is missing the one button that would get me going - the 'CODE' button!!!!! After going to the Bryston website and downloading the IRC codes files and then spending hours finding something on the net that will read it, I discover that file doesn't have the 'CODE' button either??

There is no Bryston Dealer local to me.

Am I doomed to going the RS-232 route? Is this hard? I am technical enough but have never had to go down this path before.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike

Would it help if we sent you a remote and your remote could learn the codes?

Hi James,

Your offer is most generous - except I'm in Australia!! I should exhaust other avenues first I think.

It might be easier (and cheaper) to upload the required codes to Logitech by someone who has a BR remote and also a Logitech Harmony. Then  everyone can use it  :)

I've just had a read up on RS-232 and it doesn't seem impossible. I'm going out today and will see if I can pick up a USB to RS-232 cable.

Cheers,

Mike

Further update: I have purchased an RS-232 cable and opened communication with the B100. I can send any remote command successfully (changing inputs etc) but trying to send the 'Passthrough' code (245) all I get is a response saying that code is invalid.

According to the instructions in the manual there is nothing else I have to do to enter this code? What is interesting though is that when using the remote you have to press 'CODE' first, then 245. Is there something missing from the Owners Manual documentation for RS-232 control?

Cheers,

Mike

Hi James,

I haven't got a response from Mike - is it possible his email is mpickett (double t) @bryston.com, rather than mpicket@bryston.com as per above?

Cheers,

Mike
