Spend thousands on a speakers, electronics, cables and cheap out on glides - I don't think so. Eight reasons why my HT2-TL's sound so awesome:

Herbie's Cone/Spike Decoupling Gliders - $14.89 each

And they look cool too.

I'll be honest, I am not sure I even believe in speaker spikes...

From what I've read, there is a lot of misinformation: whether they couple or decouple; when they've done vibration tests, spikes made vibration worse; and if you wanted to eliminate vibration, better to use rubber feet. May just go with no feet for now...

As previously suggested, I'm using these from Lowes for about $4.  They are nice as you can move the speaker without scratching the floor and the spikes fit right in the metal tab.

That's what I did. I just put some felt furninture pad stick ons over the spike holes and let it go.

My home theater has a tile floor on concrete. With my HT1-TL's I tried some teflon pads under the Salk spikes, I tried butcher blocks and although they protected the floor, the speakers were also ending up too high for my seating. I removed the blocks and the spikes and put 4 of these under each speaker:

They are cheap and the sound improvement has been significant!! I  now have these under my mains, under my new Salk Sub (no spikes here either), and recommend you give them a try. Not much to lose at this price. I believe they also sell them in black, but to make them disappear, I just painted the cork sides with some flat black paint.

I use these felt sliders.  They are backed by metal so the spike won't drive through.  I superglued a washer to keep the spike centered in the slider.  Works great and all parts are available at Home Depot.
