Recently I switched from a 5.1 to 2.2 system, and I am reading quite a bit about bass management without using an HT pre pro. I currently have a Parasound 2100 and Emotiva XDA-2 dac. Being that all of my sources are digital and the XDA-2 handles the switching, the only thing I use the Parasound for is the high pass filter, sub crossover, and volume control and it seems like a waste. I am thinking about eliminating the Parasound. The XDA-2 supposedly has a "lossless digitally controlled analog volume control" that controls both the XLR and RCA analog outputs levels at the same time. Since my speakers (sealed Selah Prestigio) have a -3dB @ 75hz, I am thinking about putting a HSU high pass filter between the DAC and main amps via RCA, and a DEQ2496 between the DAC and subwoofers' amps via XLR. I would use the DEQ2496 to roll off the highs to the subs (dual Epik Empires) and EQ it. I am aware that the DEQ2496 will be doing AD/DA conversion to EQ, but I am not concerned about this as the output will be going to just the subs.
My goal is to have a HPF and Sub EQ with the least amount of sound degradation. Would there be any reason not to go this route? Would I lose sound quality in using the HSU and Behringer units as opposed to the Parasound? Does anyone have experience with the HSU unit? How will the HSU HPF compare to the one in the Parasound? I am open to other suggestions as long as I won't have to sell a kidney to implement it.
