Nitro speaker cables with Bybees?
« on: 12 Jul 2004, 04:34 am »
I seem to remember reading a comparison of Nitro speaker cables with bybees, but can't find it easily enough on a search :(

My new kitten has taken to traipsing around behind my audio eqipment (grr), and has dislodged the Gronernberg cables more than once. Hence, it's time to upgrade! :)

I'm running Gronenberg speaker cables to a pair of RM40's, driven by Extreme Monos.

I recall great things being said about the Nitro speaker cables, but recall a bybee as an option, which isn't visible as an option on the website. Can one be inserted, and what is the sonic payoff? Am seriously considering the jumper cables in addition to the speaker cables.

Also, what termination to use? I'd need something fairly robust. The list of options on the website is rather extensive. I'd guess 1/4 inch spades would be best? How robust is the connection with the Eichmann bananas?

Advice appreciated ;)

The Eichmann Baynotes (bananas) are awesome. Waaay better than spades IMO. They fit very tightly in the posts on my speaks. Very doubtful a cat could pull them off at all just by messing with the cables.

Wayne could tell you how they fit VMPS posts. I'm not sure anyone but myself has had cables made with the Bayonets yet. Which is a shame, as they're the only connectors I'd use since they sound great, are easy to use, and don't come looose over time as spades do.

And yeah, Wayne can build Bybees in the Nitro speaker cables. Not sure about the pricing as I've not had Nitro speaker cabling built yet.

The most versatile way to do it is to get a set of speaker cables with the Bybees and use Nitro jumpers.

The second best way is to get plain speaker cables to the bass and use Bybee Nitro Jumpers to the mids/tweets.

I don't know the length you need, but I have a pair (self serving advert to follow) of 16' with the best spades Bolder offers in the Trading circle.

The Nitro's are very very nice cables with the 40's.

Bananas, standard or Bayonet, do not work very well with VMPS speakers.
1/4" spades are the best way to hook them up. I have some of the Gold Plated PCCOC Furutech spades on hand now. The Stratos can accept bananas or spades without any trouble.

I do not list the Bybee option for the speaker cables, as I have not had to many request for it. Maybe if I listed it I would get more

The Bybees add about $100.00 each to the cost of the cable. I have found that they tend to lower a noise floor you did not know you had. They also appear to clean up the high frequencies by eliminating a lot of background "noise" To my ears, cymbals sound more like cymbals with Bybees in line. Without they are very "harsh" in comparison. YMMV

Hmm, the 16 ft cables are tempting, but are twice the length that I need. Also like the rhodium spades... But think I should get cables with bybees built-in? That way I can get the jumpers as cash an spouse allow, and still get the best performance in the short term :)

How about it, Wayne? Have any rhodium spades and bybees on hand?

Ron,

I have rhodium spades but only in 5/16"  The Gold are 5/16" tapering to 1/4" so they can be used for any size binding post. I am out of the Large Bybees right now, I just shipped off three Ultrs Nitro power cables with THREE Bybees per cable to Bubba's boss :o

I will have more of the Larger Bybees in stock next week.

Contact me by e-mail and we can discuss this a little more.

Nitro Bybee jumpers

I am hijacking this topic a little because I have Marbles' Nitro Bybee jumpers and finally got to hear them last night in a friend's system. Due to a great deal of traveling over the last three weeks I haven't been able to connect them in my own system, and I won't be able to do so for another week at least :(

However, a friend of mine just got a new Phillips 963 SA DVD/SACD player and invited me over to give it a listen. I brought the jumpers because he too is curious about the Bybees. Frankly both of use were skeptical that the Bybees or the Nitro cable would make that much difference, but I have to say that what Wayne said above is definetly true, cymbals and other instruments with high-frequency transient information sound more life-like and less "spitty" with the Nitro Bybee jumpers connected to my friend's speakers. His system isn't as revealing as mine, so now ai can't wait until I have the time to get these hooked up to my VMPS RM40s!  :!:

The 40's LOVE the speaker level bybee's.  Especially if you use the bybee jumpers to bypass the switch, a definite, marked improvement in resolution and musicality.
