Must be Laura's day. Thanks for pushing me over the edge on this one. A worthy addition to my Byrds, CSN&Y, and solo collection.

Just terrific. Amazing what they could do live recording-wise in 1970.

Greatest musical achievement or overproduced crap? I kind of like it. As usual the critics wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the ass.

Never understood why it got panned so badly. Not my favorite of theirs, but I thoroughly enjoyed it both then & now.  8)

Pumpkinman's post had me looking through my humble collection for this album.

This is their first album with the one Ram Jam hit "Black Betty". This album was released in 1977, but I was thinking I had heard the song much before that time on Clyde Clifford's underground radio show "Beaker Street" on the Mighty 1090 KAAY Little Rock.  However, a little research told me that Beaker Street ended in 1972, so who knows where I heard it

Lemon Pipers guitarist Bill Bartlett heard the Huddie Ledbetter song Black Betty from the blues group Kearner, Ray and Glover. He reworked the song and performed it with his new group Star Struck which was issued as a 45 by Truckstar Records.  This first album by Bartlett's follow-on group, Ram Jam, included the Star Struck version of "Black Betty".

Check out the Wikipedia entry for Black Betty, it has a very interesting history.
