Nope, turning it up all the way takes the Lampi attenuator completely out of the path. the external preamp will then control the volume. The DAC itself already does the amping to whatever the output voltage is. lampi does it with tubes, SS Dacs do this with opamps or diiscrete components. Now your active preamp may add another gainstage, but that cant be avoided by any Dac, AFAIK.

I just rolled in a new Genelex Gold Lion 5AR4 rectifier tube.  WOW!  Same dynamics as the Bendix 6106 but faster and better clarity.  This is a keeper for me.

Thinking about having Taras add his remote volume control to my DAC and forgo my Dehavilland UV3.

Anyone go that route? That is dump you preamp for the Lamp with volume control?

I have the volume control and used it exclusively on my l4 g4 for months with great results...but since have gone the preamp route. I prefer the sound with the new pre.  maybe in a few months i'll switch back.

Granted i'm now biased my Dude preamp is collecting dust. I'm gonna try and go direct ( bypass the input selector) in hopes I can match the purity of the Lamp VC.
