Please don't tell my wife that I bought more speakers. Now what?

I blame MCM for sending me a sales flier with their 21" woofers ( part #55-2985) on sale for $99/each.  I just ordered 2. Specs: Fs 26 hz, Qts .38, Vas 705 liters, X-max 7 mm. My current system has Alpha 15s, Pioneer 8" full range (BOFU) and Dayton audio back to back tweeters on a flat 22"x 38" baffle. Crossed over at 200 hz with a Marchand crossover. I also recently purchased a pair of Fostex Fe166EN 6.5" speakers. I know the Qts of the MCM woofs is low for open baffle. I have a Reckhorn B-1 equalizer that I plan to use to boost the bass frequencies. The widest baffle that I can fit in the room is 24". At this point I'm thinking about the MCMs and the Fostex on a baffle about 24x36, again with a crossover approximately 200 hz. I'm wondering if anyone else has tried these woofers? Whadaya think about an H-frame baffle with these speaks? At the 2012 Burning Amp in San Francisco somebody was using 21" woofers on flat baffles. They sounded good.  Not sure if they were the same speakers as the MCMs. Maybe if I build new speaks but use the same stain and baffle shape my better half won't notice? :icon_lol:

Tell her you borrowed them from a buddy, then stash your old ones in a friend's basement.  After a while, bring 'em back.   :thumb:

Thanks everybody for the "encouragement".  Hey, Thunderbrick, if my wife knew how many speakers I already have at other people's houses, we would have a Day of Reckoning!  I don't even remember how many pairs I have given away after I finished the latest pair.

  • The poodle bites, the poodle chews it.
Buy a nice piece of jewelry and tape the gift wrapped box to the top of one of the speakers and say, "Here, this is for you and there's some weird thing stuck to the bottom of the box."

You guys are no help at all! The first speaker arrived today, and it is really big. At this point I'm thinking about a 24" cube by 16" deep H-frame, which will give me some flexibility in pairing with the rest of the spectrum. Been reading the MJK articles and thinking about a crossover.

You ask our help in keeping your wife in the dark, and you're surprised because you get smart-ass answers?

That's like asking Liz Taylor about how to keep a husband.     :nono:
