I'm very curious whether anyone has ever actually verified that the "golden ratio" has a meaningful use in speaker design.

It is only meaningful in that it is a set of irrational ratios.

In that case, why not use PI/x, or the cube root of 3, etc?

Those work too. There are lots of irrational numbers.

Does that mean use a set of irrational numbers so that reflected wavefront will not add or substract?

Too many years ago to remember all the science behind the golden ratio, but it has to do with standing waves and parallel walls and woofer distortion.
Check out the following thread:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/49836-golden-rule.html

Many high end speakers today use odd angles and curved sides to tame these distortions.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

The golden ratio is very significant in the nature, animals and even in the human being, all this was made around the golden ratio and maybe the rest we dont know.
I would use the golden ratio and all the various others procedures mentioned earlier, only the golden ratio is insufficient.

With most modern thin and tall enclousures golden ratio is increasingly less used, but God prefer the golden ratio for an irrational reason?
