A true shame, if possible more so since as noted it was post 'routine' surgery. He gave us a lot of great music over the years, and his 2012 release proved there was more to come. Never had the opportunity to see him or TYA, but have listened to them fairly regularly over the last few years. Like many, one of my favorites. Rest In Peace Alvin, and Rock ON ! with those who proceeded you.

Wow, what a loss.  I did not attend Woodstock but I do remember the headlines "Ten Years After" received after the event was over.  RIP

If you never saw him play live, he was one of the most impressive musicians ever.
He just made it look so effortless as he just ripped away on that big red 335.
He was the first person I ever saw use a microphone stand to play slide guitar - he was great.
