I like early Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett in particular and for those who wondered whatever happened to that poor kid, here's four interviews from the surviving members of Pink Floyd.  I gather these were shot shortly after Syd died of pancreatic cancer.

In the documentary WYWH David said Syd lived in a community of junkies in acid (maybe mandrix) at the time his mind has been lost.

Definitely Syd would change the music of PF for another form of music.
Certainly Syd would be so great as Roger or David today, or even bigger.
Last month 06Jan was his bithday.
RIP

It looks like what happened is that he may have had some problems to begin with and then there was the "regular" drug usage which was creating some problems upstairs.
Then he was given a massive overdose of acid during the course of a weekend when they couldn't locate him and that was that.
A sad story but the interviews are worth watching if you have the time.

The band was aware Syd situation was not normal before the sad day.
In a music newspaper from the 70s I yet had stored today, they informed Syd locked his girlfriend in a dark room for several days, and fed her only with biscuits under the door.
Was mention that Syd played always the same note on some shows, so he has been removed from the band, and David was called in France, where he was working as model.

Syd wrote lyrics that I would hear once and then never forget like:

She took a long, cold look at me
and smiled
and gazed
all over my arm

I've got a clan of gingerbread men
Here a man, there a man
Lots of gingerbread men.
Take a couple if you wish, they're on the dish.

Jugband Blues
It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm most obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not here

And I never knew the moon could be so big
And I never knew the moon could be so blue
And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes
And brought me here instead dressed in red

And I'm wondering who could be writing this song

I don't care if the sun don't shine
And I don't care if nothing is mine
And I don't care if I'm nervous with you
I'll do my loving in the Winter

And the sea isn't green
And I love the Queen
And what exactly is a dream?
And what exactly is a joke?

Two of my favorite Syd songs are "Opel" and "Dark Globe."

One of the great tragedies of rock music, and there have been far too many.

It would have been very interesting to see what Syd would have done if he had been able to develop his musical ability even further, as his fellow band mates did.
