Bryston interconnects - tried them?
« on: 3 Feb 2013, 05:50 pm »
Has anyone tried the Bryston interconnects?  So far I have just received one pair and the other pair should arrive shortly.  I have been pleasantly surprised after just replacing the one cable (pre-amp to amp).  I don't want to bash the other cable manufacturer but the Bryston was $230 vs. the competitions $1,200+.  I ran a blind test with my wife who is not all that interested in audio and asked her to pick which one she liked best.  Her comment was this one sounds more like a live concert (Bryston).  She had heard all the artists live at the Ravinia Pavilion this summer so she had a pretty good basis for comparison.

Another fellow started a thread about the Bryston cables but I didn't see too many comments and I wanted to give credit where it is due.  They use VanDamme cable and I believe it is manufactured to Bryston standards.

Next up is going to be changing to their speaker cable.  The same competition wants about $8,500 for their speaker cables and Bryston wants $700 (long runs).  The competition is a popular brand but it didn't work as well with my system in my room.

I didn't post this to have a debate about cables.  Like Mr. Tanner says - It is pointless to tell people what they can and can''t hear, or that's close.

Best Wishes and good listening,
Mike

But it will turn into one,

Well, at least it will not be by design and we don't have to participate.

Hahaha.. the comments section is crazy silly. If only we cared for world hunger and the environment like we do our beloved stereo equipment.  8)
Just imagine if humans put there priorities in place the difference all things would be.....

I used Bryston interconnects (balanced and unbalanced) for a long while and heard "nothing" from them, which was exactly what I had hoped to hear.  In other words, the cables did not alter the sound, they were for all intents and purposes "neutral"/"faithful"/etc.   If you go with Bryston wires, I expect that you will be pleased.

A wire is a wire is a wire. Unless it's a transmission line when it's just a transmission line.

I suggest some exploration of the ham radio world. Try the forums. With the frequencies and powers involved, you may expect that these folks are "into cables" too. Like having some boutique brands of coax, connectors etc. that promise to let them reach Antarctica with only 1 Watt - by "easing the flow of electrons to the antenna through nano-molecular alignment of cable crystalline network", "reducing noise by tuning thermal noise out of band" or some other BS.

Well they're not. While they do discuss stuff like electrical/mechanical parameters, weather resistance and such, they're *not* into magic cables. For them a 50Ohms cable is a 50Ohms cable of specified diameter, loss and maximum power.

Wonder why? Maybe just because them ham radio guys also tend to have measuring instruments in their shacks and don't need to do it "by the ear".

Or maybe we should try to educate them, eh?  :icon_twisted:

For more about Ham amateur radio and cable from an audio expert.

Even about why you can use 75 Ohm co-ax to a 50 Ohm antenna.
