Speed up DLNA performance?
« on: 24 Jan 2013, 01:41 am »
I just started playing around with using Jriver as a DLNA media player/controller (DMP, DMC) and a Oppo BDP-103 as a DLNA media renderer (DMR).  In other words, Jriver plays and controls the music files (via Jremote on an Ipod Touch) and the Oppo decodes and outputs the music to the system.  This lets me use the Oppo to play back music files and bypass its clunky menu player that requires a video monitor.  Instead I use the superior playback control of a Jriver/Jremote setup.

I got it working and am able to play back resolutions up to 24/192.  But there's a significant 5 second or longer gap between songs.  I don't expect it to be gapless playback. I know DLNA has issues with that.  But I would expect a tighter 1 to 2 second gap between tunes and quicker start/stop/skip performance.

Is this a network performance issue?  Both the Jriver PC and the Oppo are connected via ethernet, not wireless.  Is there a way to optimize my network for faster media file performance.  What else can I adjust/optimize to speed up music control/playback performance?

Thanks

Russ

I can't get 24/96 files to stream reliably.  I think you're ahead of the game from where I sit.
