Digital amp question
« on: 24 Jun 2004, 02:12 pm »
Can any of the new digital amps drive 4 ohm speakers?  Or, regardless of manufacturer recommendations, has anyone tried?  I have the Panny 45 and it's rated for only 6 & 8 ohms and one of the pairs of speakers I have is 4 ohm...

Thanks very much,
Andy

Andy, I have a Panasonic SA-XR25 that's driving 4 ohm GMA Europas just fine.  I also posed this question at Audiogon, and several others are doing the same with various speakers.  Don't have the link, but search for "Panasonic digital amps" in the forums and you should bring up the thread.

Thanks for the response.  Would you anticipate any problems running 4 ohm speaks TOGETHER with 8 ohm speaks in an HT set-up?

Thanks,

if its a separate channel then there wouldnt be any problem as they are effectivly separate amplifiers though running off the same power supply...

however if your trying to run a 4 ohm in parrellel with 8 ohms your going to go into lower ohms and blow stuff up. :)

Yeah, they're for the surrounds, so will be separate channels.  Thanks.
