HX580 (we should have name these HX600, but we already have a model H600, so we name the amp HX580 to avoid confusion) has list price of $379, and HX300 has a list price of $289. Please note each HX amp is a mono amp regardless how many Ucd modules it uses.

We do encourage the customers to use a pair of HX580 driving four DS800, we have a package price of $1179 for that.

How would you connect a stereo amp that has a second set of L/R line level pre-outs but does not have a summed subwoofer pre-out like an AVR has?  The sub I am currently using in this system has L/R line level inputs so connection is simple: L/R pre-amp outputs to L/R sub inputs. However, the HX580 appears to only have a single input.

Mike, You answered your own question.
"Please note each HX amp is a mono amp"
"We do encourage the customers to use a pair of HX580 driving four DS800"

I'm more interested in a pair of HX580 driving eight DS800 : )
As a solid base (bass) for a pair of N2X or N3S.

That poses a real problem for me with these subs. I'm not interested in $1,200 worth of subwoofer components to match up to $189 of speaker components in a desktop system.

Maybe they aren't going to be the answer I thought they would be after all  :(

I have some non-servo 8" woofers that were used in the X-Sub that I can sell you for $25 a piece.

Are the X-Sub plans still available?  I was hoping to do a 8" servo sub to pair with X-LS but a non-servo 8" would probably work just as well.

I'm not familiar with the X-Sub. What amp would you drive them with?

+1.
I might up for trying out a 8" non servo amp sub combo if the price is right.

I can send you box plans.

It is not going to be in the same league as the servo sub, but it has a high bank for the buck.

I just have the woofers. You'll have to pick up an inexpensive plate amp from PE or something.

Thanks Danny

I could use a copy of the box plans as well.

It's a down firing design that I drew out with metric measurements for the guys in China.

What type of low end extension will this sub provide?

I am not a big fan of the Bash amps. But that little Dayton amp will work just fine.

Huston we have lift off

Looks like I have another speaker or two to build

I found this thread with some build pics of the X-Sub box design

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=91095.msg905756#msg905756

Love those build threads. You never know when one will come in handy

Just got off the phone with Danny. To clarify, all that is needed to sum the stereo output from the preamp into a mono signal to connect to the 8" servo sub is a Y-jack. So the 8" servo subs can be used with a preamp even if it doesn't have a subwoofer output channel.  :thumb:

I'm still going to build a couple of small single driver non-servo subs and possibly a dual driver version as well.

Can somebody drawn a picture of this?
Do you split the signal between the pre-amp and the amp or do you split the speaker output from the amp? What does the splitter look like electrically?  Or can you just connect two speaker cables from the amp out with one going to the speaker and the other going to the sub?

Is this what is needed:     http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/accessories/products/xrca-1x2

Ideally though you want one with a male end that you can plug right into the amp.

Here is an example: http://www.parts-express.com/gold-rca-y-(1)-male-to-(2)-right-angle-female-red--091-510

And then plug in an left and right input from your pre-amp.
