Audio Desk Systeme ultrasonic vinyl cleaner?
« on: 10 Dec 2012, 02:08 pm »
I read Mikey's review, and wonder if any of you are using one of these?  I have a many years-old Record Doctor (manual vac cleaner from Audio Advisor), and wonder if this ultrasonic cleaner is worth the $$.  There are lots of cleaners around (spin-clean, okki nokki, VPI, etc) and I know this topic comes up periodically. I'm buying used records often these days and think I could do better-and (sorry I sinned) I have used some gruv-glide on some records, whcich I regret and agree this residue is hard to get rid of.  I use Audio Intelligent or Record doctor cleaning solutions. Thanks,

Mark

I have seen the review in Tone Audio and I would like to get one, currently I have the Loricraft PRC3.

I bought one for my demo system and it is fantastic! Takes a poppy and scratchy unlistenable record and makes it very listenable.
Also does a good job of getting rid of the mold-release compound on new records. The drying cycle is forced air so nothing touches the record in the drying cycle thus eliminating any potential for static which is unavoidable with a normal rcm. Just drop the record into the slot and hit a button-painless. Highly recommended.

I've been using this for some time now and really enjoy it.

Here's a link to our review:

http://www.tonepublications.com/analogaholic/audio-desk-systeme-rcm/

I'm cleaning a lot more records than before, because you don't have to baby sit the machine as you do with the others.

About ten of our readers have purchased one since the review and they have all written back to say they have had
equally positive results.  Expensive, but if you have a lot of records and are still buying a fair amount of records, it's
the way to go.

This is great feedback. Now...any avenues out there  for purchasing a used/refurbished one?

This would be a good product for an audio 'club' to purchase and then just send around in a round robin until everybody's records were cleaned. Basically everybody pitches in to the cost of the cleaner. The bigger the group, the better, but the longer the wait time.

Pie in the sky dreaming...

Now if this could be made at half the price or less it would be a MUST OWN

Haven't seen any used ones.  The people that have them are hanging on to them.

Price in Germany is 1999 Euro = US $ 2579: Audio Desk Systeme Gläss

Found a Special Christmas Offer: 1600 Euro = US $ 2064

Place it in the trunk of your Christmas GT2 RS and you save the tax:

Can anyone who has the ADS confirm that it only cleans 12” size discs? It’s a pity if that is all it does, I have a lot of 10” records too but not too many 7” records.
I don’t want to keep my Loricraft PRC3 as well just to clean a hand full of 10” and 7” records. :(

Hi Toni Rambold where did you see it for €1600 can you share link to it :thumb:

I just spoke to the manufacturer and they said they are working on an adaptor to allow the system to clean 7” and 10” records.  8)

I heard about new fans and a different and better airflow and
a new flexible driveshaft (no Mikey nudge required anymore).
But I didn't talk with Reiner Gläß.

Sorry - no link !
It's an industry ad in a German vinyl forum - member access only.

I am contemplating one, but I have heard some negatives on reliability (still). Early units had problems for sure. Jeff at TONEPUB has had a great experience. And Mike Fremer e-mailed me that he has cleaned 100's without problems, as well as a few analog planet people who have e-mailed him.

Getting closer...

What's the "Boo" for?  Mine works fine, as does the two staff members and three friends that bought them.  I once had a VPI 16.5 that broke all the time.  I had another 16.5 that worked fine for years.

I feel terrible that someone spent that much money on one of these and had trouble, but it does happen.  That's why I buy a handful of things we review every year, specifically so we can do "long term" tests.  I've had mine for about six months now, have cleaned 100's of records without a burp.

Can only report what I've found.

Thanks, Jeff. Living in Northern Michigan has a lot of positives but one of them is NOT getting things serviced! So I try to look into things carefully before I buy. And who better to trust then my friends at AC?

Yeah, and that's a LOT of money to spend to get a bad experience.  I don't want to see anyone have that problem.  That's where I really find the forums useful, to see a broader experience.  If we get something in for review and it performs well, that's only one unit.  I actually bought the demo unit from the floor at the NYC show last year, so I knew it had gotten some heavy use before hand.

boo = to scare/frighten someone

The GT2 RS (620 HP) is "a little bit quicker" than the GT3 (435 HP) you mention once in a while,
especially on the A81 between Stuttgart/Zuffenhausen and Würzburg/Kist ...  :)

And your point?

Here in the US, the last spec GT3 was 500 HP.

But we're comparing non turbo charged cars to turbo charged cars. Apples to oranges.

Not sure what this has to do with record cleaners....

I'd be glad to bring the discussion back to the Audio Desk if anyone else has anything to add. (I hope to enter my 1974 914 in this year's Porsche Parade. It's only 40 miles from my house!)
