Love 'em!  Never really thought of them as prog rock though.  Interesting.  I don't know if you're familiar with their other offerings.  'El Cielo' is my favorite.  I've heard that from a number of other Dredg fans too.  For me, every album since ('Catch w/o Arms', 'The Pariah...' and 'Chuckles...' have all been a little worse than the last...still good though, don't get me wrong.  They are certainly more radio friendly as you go along but I feel they are more soul-less too.  I'm a bit of a musical weirdo, I readily admit; what most people really like bores me to tears and what I really like rarely connects with others.  I've tried to get a number of friends into 'El Cielo' but they just don't connect with it.  Let me know how you like it.

BTW, Rishloo sounds really awesome!  Terrible name for a band though.  Lots of good rec's here.  Keep em coming!

Will check out the other dredg alb.   They are hard to find here, but I listened on grooveshark.

I really do like Rishloo.  Both Feathergun and Eidolon are very good.

Ok, so in this list, I mentioned a couple of names that really aren't very "progressive" but came across them while surfing on bands that were.

Dead Letter Circus is pretty good, almost Mars Volta sounding, but wouldn't claim it really prog.
Dealsoul Tribe is prog and really good.
Children of Nova is more like DLC, more Mars Volta like again and really good, not super prog.

I am ok with not super prog, as many of the true "prog" stuff on this list is way too much for me.

Can't go wrong with Anekdoten, Anathema, Dream Theater, Pendragon...so many others. I even consider Porcupine Tree a prop band, possibly the biggest one out there today.

Soen - Cognitive is an awesome album.   Didn't mention it before because it was already high rotation here.

Tool has been my favorite band since I was introduced back in '92/93 (I was still in HS).   So it is no surprise I am going to like a lot on here too.

I'm with ya Josh.  I immediately ran out and bought Undertow after seeing the video for "Sober" on MTV.  Been a big fan ever since.

I wouldn't call this prog rock but I recently came across this album and it's not too far removed from many already mentioned here, Katatonia and Soen) with the obvious exception being the vocals.

This popped up during a youtube search today.  Sounds pretty good!  A little lighter than others in this thread.

Hi Josh,

Just came across this band today, Alcest.  Thought it might be up your alley.  Kinda dreamy metal.  Here are the first three hits off youtube.

lots of great progressive rock happening at the moment, there are probably bands all around you in your city in fact. Most people think good music doesn't happen anymore, and it's because they haven't found it.

Here's a link to the best prog of 2012, per the posters at progressiveears.org. It's a long list with a lot of different opinions and sub genres, but you never know what you might find, or like.

Josh,

I've been enjoying Karcius (The First Day) and Dredg (El Cielo, Leitmotif) over the last few weeks. Something you might like to check out.

Many bands here that I've never heard of. Time to discover some music.  :thumb:

Porcupine Tree (especially some of their older stuff) is great.

Steven Wilson has branched out on his own and is making some great stuff too.

Actually, if you follow any of Porcupine Tree's band members, they are all doing stuff on their own. It's a pretty deep rabbit hole once you start looking...
