Dynavector noise

As an interim solution to a cartridge problem (detailed in other post), I got a good deal on a new Dynavector 10x5 to keep me spinning. Got it all set up this weekend but I am having a peculiar problem with loading that is befuddling even my dealer. Running it into a Whest 0.03RDT phono stage at the recommended 47k loading, I get all sorts of weird, high-frequency noise that comes in and out intermittently. If I move my tonearm cable, this can help a little or make it worse, a bit like moving a radio antenna around but it's unpredictable, even when it starts out quiet, this high pitched sound can arise during playback.  Problem only disappears fully when I load cartridge down at 1k. Trouble is, it sounds better at 47k or even 15k, the 1k is a bit soft sounding for my ears but at least it's quiet. Strange phenomenon, anyone here have a clue what's happening? Never experienced this with any other cartridge in this or similar set-ups.

I doubt very much it is the cart. I had a DV 10x5 with a DV P75 MkII and never had any problems with that combo. Switch out the Phonostage.

Sounds to me like your interconnects have become an antenna with this particular combination. Look for a better pair of interconnects that are better shielded.

Problem solved -- it was a gain mismatch with the high output 10x5  -- had the internal dip switch on too high a setting.  :duh:  One more reason why I dislike internal jumpers and dip switches.

You said you found a good deal on one.  Just so happens, I'm looking to buy a 10x5.  Would you mind sharing your source?

I think user 2juki on ebay probably has the best prices.
