I think we are mixing in too many issues here.
Illegal copying, i.e. making duplicates sold under the same name without patent grants and/or permission from the trade mark owner, is illegal, no matter who does it.
China has an outstanding record in doing precisely that, as did Japan in its day. And this will probably remain that way until they start investing in research and development and start getting ripped off themselves. They don't copy just the basic product, but used to copy the brand name as well. I understand they don't do this much any more due to pressure on their government and expanding trade with the world, which China needs badly.
As for illegal copying of patents, that's harder to prove, but it's done regularly, wherever technology will permit it. That's something I think few will condone, because that's outright theft.
But it's also a fact that quite a few product from well known sources are in fact manufactured in the Far East because of lower wages. Some legally, from legal factories, some illegally.
It's also true that some Far Eastern products have been picked up by Western companies, rebadged and are sold with a mighty price hike, way out of any reasonable proportion. This is possible because the actual manufacturing price is low enough to enable profit rates of 200-500%. Is this is a rip-off? Morally perhaps, economically no. You don't HAVE to buy it, so if you do, that's your choice.
Cheers,
