Okay, I know this isn't the place for this exact post, but it is in my head and I don't know where to start.
I read through lots of the linked discussions in this thread about comparing ob speakers to boxed ones. I really enjoy reading what is written, and i feel I've learned alot. And everyone posts a similar sentiment. You have to go with what you like. What if I don't know what I like? I just finished a set of Danny's A/V-1, and they are breaking/burning in right now.
I have limited experience with expensive gear. Long ago, too. Martin logan with Krell. Since then, I have a great entry level home theater with a Definitive Technology 6.1 system run by a small denon receiver.
After listening to a set of bookshelf speakers with a much better crossover than my def tech towers, i like the change.
I know the answer is get out there and listen to an OB speaker but I don't know any. Plus, I have tried to learn what to "listen for" but I have spent several hours listening to music in my room, moving speakers, changing sub settings, moving couch cushions as makeshift room treatments and I have come up with one overarching obvious conclusion.
I have no idea how to identify problems in my room. Maybe I am just looking for answers when I really need to do my own trial and error. I have wanted to ask that question many, many times and I always felt like it was a dumb question. Maybe I will look for "Being an audiophile-For Dummies" book.
I know this was a rambler, and I apologize. I had to spew it out.
I don't know
