WTB Volume attenuator (buffer)

Who's got a Pass B1 buffer or any quality buffer just laying around that they would like to have a good home.  ﴾͡๏̯͡๏﴿

It's a nice and cozy home with plenty of tube heat in the winter. Will pay pal.

Mine are RCA terminated, 4K, 12 step, Scott sells them for $70 new, make me an offer.

I have an as new Dodd Buffer only a few months in as new condition.  Let me know if you're interested.

CRAP!!! I'm in the process of setting up my system after a move and a long time in storage.

I just now discovered that my modified, sweet-sounding and now too-unaffordable-to-replace Cary pre-amp is putting on a light show at a solder joint.

I cannot easily access the joint and my soldering skills are lousy. I gotta find a competent local repair person and get this sorted out before I make any other moves.

HOWEVER, when I do get it sorted, I'll be back in touch. Thank you for responding.

Mumble... Grumble... Mumble!  What next!    ╚(•⌂•)╝

Okay, I'm back from the local repair shop that wants to charge me $175 plus parts and any additional hours to fix my pre-amp. Am I out of touch or is that a little high?

morganc, I'm afraid you would hunt me down and do me bodily harm for insulting you over what I could offer you for your Dodd Buffer. It is out of my price range, for sure. I'm sure it would be lovely for my system, but....

JLM, I'll read up on the Endler Attenuator. I might go that route.

So, is a $175 flat rate steep? I figure I could get a Pass B1 from someone for that or am I in in lala land again?   ¯(°_o)/¯

I have a B1 built from the Pass DIY PCB, not the First Watt factory B1, but same circuit, with Pass selected transistors.

PM sent about the Cary.

Early B.

My audio repair guy also charges a minimum of $175 for anything he does. It's insane, but the replacement cost of your Cary preamp will be much more than that.

My local electronics repair shop has a minimum $50 charge.  So $175 seems a bit high to me as a minimum, but I suspect location has a lot to do with it.  $175 could be very reasonable in your area.  Call around?

Having said that, as far as I can tell, these guys aren't exactly driving home in Ferarris to multi-million dollar houses.  You have to pay the rent, invest in equipment, meet payroll obligations, pay benefits, etc.  And a lot of the times, I'd guess they're probably waiting around for work to do as most electronics don't break very often, and when they do, the cost to repair may not look very favorable versus the cost to replace.

Either that, or these guys are so busy making bank on the repairs that they're already doing, it's not worth their while to do anything for less than $175.

Thanks, guys! All I know is the $175 before repairs is expensive TO ME. Of course, that's a comment more on me than anything else.   :shh:
