I was also unaware that this cheap/stupid approach had been used in some sub-woofers. I don't get the economy involved in substituting a large cap in place of the very small cap used in line level applications.

Scotty:

This is how they can bring the costs down, that and outsourcing to China and such.   With that said, for Magnepan's, I would opt for the REL T1 which is 4ohms just to be on the safe side.
