You're right. But...

Not even one Wildcat call? From the 6? For the Ring???

I would have coached it differently.

Jerry, I completely agree with you.  That Raven defense was tired and SF did nothing to exploit their speed advantage.  Forget about the call I was just griping about, Harbaugh should be mad at himself for throwing three times to the same guy, in the same location.  Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me...fool me three times, WTF?

When an offensive lineman "tackles" a defender.  I think they call it HOLDING.   Glad I could be of assistance.

Oops...for some reason that just didn't register :duh:

Carry on.....

I never knew of that rule.  :duh:

Thanks teach  :thumb:

What would have been the penalty?

That's why they held blatantly, the penalty for offensive holding in the endzone is...a Safety!  I'm pretty sure they knew the rules and were coached to do so, there's basically no penalty when the play is intended to create a safety.

This is true but it still cost the Niners at least 8 seconds.  Either way, they would have needed a miracle pass to win it.  The odds of that happening were pretty slim.  I'm done with the SB talk.  Let's move on to more exciting and topical subjects...like NHL Hockey!

Cheers,

Jack

How would YOU like to have a seat at the Harbaugh clan's next BBQ or Thanksgiving dinner?  Now THAT would be worth watching!

Let's end this thread and take Jackman's advice.  Let's talk about a shortened season of goons stabbing, clubbing, and beating the hell out of each other with sticks AFTER the plays are over!   :thumb:  Ice Capades  meets WWE!

No doubt that the Raven O-line were told to hold, tackle, hogtie, or whatever to keep the clock running.  A flag doesn't stop the clock.  Pretty smart coaching if you ask me.

Hey, you guys are correct!  Holding is not like a procedure penalty, or like offsides.  The clock continues to run until the whistle.  I wonder why more teams who are trying to run out the clock don't take advantage of this?  Very smart move by John.

I am so done with football!

I'm still watching NFL channel.  Like a heroin addict slowly cutting down before going cold turkey.

I like hockey and I think it's great that you take an interest in the minor league sports, like hockey, and curling, and trick shot pool, the last two of which have the better TV contracts.

My friend is a tennis fan, plays quite a bit and watches every match on TV.  I see the attraction, it's a great game, but I never worked up any passion for it.  My summer sport is golf.

I thought the refs were fine in the game. Both defensive lines could have been called for being offsides regularly throughout the game, it was let go. Both teams were guilty of a lot of pass interference penalties but weren't called for it. IMO, both teams were allowed to get away with a ton. Calling penalties like that ONLY at the end when it only benefits one side would be unfair. The 49ers were lucky to be in the game. Very lucky. Without the power outage, it could have stayed a blowout.

All in all...I felt like I was watching WWE

Are you serious?  The Ravens dominated the early game but the Niners wound up with over a hundred more total yards, nearly 500 total yards, and double the rushing yards of the Ravens.  The Niners averaged over 6 yards per carry (versus less than 3 for the Ravens)...Kaepernick averaged almost nine yards per carry and set a record for longest QB touchdown run..and they still tried to throw three times on that last goal-line stand.

You can blame the blackout, but I'm not sure this is true.  The Niners were a tough team all year, and it was obvious they weren't going to play that bad all game.  Their young QB settled down and started running the ball more.  The Raven's defense got tired (they are old) and the Niners had them on the ropes.  Also, the refs didn't have any problems calling several key pass interference penalties against the Niner's DB's, especially on a couple key third down plays.

Also, Baltimore was called for 2 penalties all game, versus 5 for the Niners.  They were letting both teams get away with a lot but I'd say one team was allowed to get away with a lot more.  Ed Reed was mauling guys all game and coming over the line well before the snap without getting whistled.  Did you even watch the game?

I'd say the Ravens were the lucky team.  Lucky that Jim Harbaugh decided to go away from what was working (on the last drive) and very lucky an obvoius penalty was not called on the 4th down goal-line play.

Have you found a new team for next year?  Looks like your Lions are going to be back in the cellar...where they belong.   :thumb:

+1!  That power outage took all the momentum away from the Ravens, and allowed SF to regroup.  It should have been a delay-of-game call against the 49ers!!!  If you want to bitch about a blown call, THAT was the egregious ref mistake.  I'm SURE it was an NFL/NO/49ers conspiracy!  It HAD to have been all those guys in orange vests crouched along the end zone corners! They looked REALLY sneaky!   Didn't you WATCH the game???   :slap:  :bawl:    :nono:

Itn't it a little early in the day to be smoking crack?  The Niners were the better team all season and, even though I picked the Ravens to win, I wound up rooting for the Niners.  Jim Harbaugh is a good coach but he gave that game to the Ravens...along with the refs who missed an obvious call.  :P

Can't bring myself to root for a team with a guy like Ray Lewis.  I'm happy he is done with football.  Hopefully he doesn't kill any more people.

Cheers,

Jack

Wow, I agree with Jackman.  I either need to buy a lottery ticket, or find a disaster shelter, or both.  I did pick the 49ers, but really didn't know who I might root for until the game started, then it was the Niners with their comeback.

I was sort of rooting for Lewis earlier in the week because I like stories of redemption, whatever happened he appeared to set his life back on the straight and narrow, good family man etc.  But the PED thing, he was such a scumbag on the podium, laughing, shucking, he never acts like that, never.  I was such an obvious lie, I'd like to play poker with him, very easy to read.  So goodbye Ray Lewis, and good riddance.
