Sansui C2 combo build

Lately I've been seeing turntables and vinyl in TV shows and movies, got me curious. I just missed the vinyl era, I have only owned cassettes and CD's. So about a month ago I got the urge to look at vintage equipment that eventually led me to tubes also. Being in need of a project, and not having any audio equipment here in Honolulu (dedicated theater at home in Tennessee) I found a Sansui AU-70 tube based integrated amplifier here locally on Craigslist and a Sansui SR-838 TT on eBay. For speakers I purchased the plans from Decware for an open baffle design speaker. The idea was to put the TT and the amp in new chassis/plith designed so all 3 parts would look similar.  Cherry wood, high gloss black paint, curved glass with stainless accents. I also wanted a simple system with minimal components, hence the single driver speaker choice.

During my research on the Sansui one of the main downsides is it's transistorized phono preamp.  The local tech that is helping me with the technical issues of the major components of the Sansui to a new chassis suggested we delete the tone controls and use the 3 unused tubes for the phono preamp section. One of the strengths of the Sansui is the iron. That led me to looking at various designs, it just seemed like the right decision to incorporate the C2.

So I have spent the last couple of weeks reading the various posts about the C2 and the various component choices and even a couple that split the board to separate the power side. Seems like I may be going opposite incorporating with the amp. But some vintage tube based phono preamps were in the same chassis with the amp.

I received the board last week and ordered all the parts yesterday/today.

Sounds great, one suggestion though, from my recent experience. Prior to making chassis and finishing board with Vishays and Mundorfs I'd start with a mockup using cheaper stock components just to make sure that everything will fit AND work together.

Nice view, BTW :)
