Using Tape Out
« on: 5 Jul 2012, 04:01 am »
Today while listening to the tuner I unplugged the interconnect from Tape 2 Out to my computer. The gain increased when the plug is out. I am using a 4 meter Audioquest King Cobra. Never noticed this with a tape deck.

Evidently the input impedance of the line inputs on your computer must be quite low.  This is acting as a voltage divider cutting down the gain of the tuner audio output circuits (or maybe worse).

This would seem to be a good case for our optional buffered tape output circuits.  These provide a constant 47Kohm load for all sources and isolate the sources from any load connected to the tape outputs.  You can never tell for sure how nasty a load some device connected to the tape outputs might be, especially when the load connected to the tape outputs is turned off.
