I've suffered from tinnitus for several years, at a low level it was more or less constant.  Sometimes it would be a bit louder, sometimes a bit softer.  But it was always there.

This past week my parents were visiting and my dad was complaining about his tinnitus and that it was getting worse.  Bad enough that he went to talk with his doctor about it. 

Talking with him about it made me realize that I didn't have any ringing in my ears anymore.  So I've been consciously monitoring for the past week to make sure it wasn't just coming and going, but rather was permanently gone.  And, sure enough, I now have zero tinnitus!  Man, I'm pretty freaking happy about this!

I don't know whether it can be considered full blown tinnitus, but I've noticed that a slight ringing in my ears can be produced by food sensitivities. Something to be aware of .

Food sensitivities.....hhhmmm, that's interesting.  I've been on a grain free, low sugar diet for a while now, but recently I also eliminated diary due to it causing my acid reflux to act up.  I also started drinking green tea, which kinda pushed out coffee.

Hate to break it to you Tyson, but you never had tinnitus, that annoying sound you constantly were hearing was me. We just haven't been hanging out as much lately.

Punching Pez in the face did not help my tinnitus at all.  But it did make me feel a lot better :O

If I had to guess what tipped it for me, I'd say grains and dairy are the most likely culprits (since they caused so many other problems for me too), but coffee and sugar are also possibilities. 

Here's a crazy thing - if I work out and then lay down, I get a slight ringing in my ears again.  If I sit up, it goes away.  And if I've not worked out, I don't get the ringing at all, every.  I wonder if it has to do with increased blood pressure, or maybe internal pressure in general?  I do know for sure that after I gave up grains and diary my general level of "bloat" went down a lot, and a lot of the puffiness in my face went with it.  I also never get swollen hands or feet anymore, which I used to get a lot.  Maybe getting rid of all that swelling, pressure, bloat helped relieve the tinnitus?  I am just guessing, I honestly have no idea.

Thiamine mineral deficiency can cause tinnitus.  My resident expert says mucous-producing foods can cause tinnitus - dairy, gluten, gelatin.  Manganese deficiency also.  My expert just looked it up in her reference books.  Drink lots of water and get the highest protein level you can.

Playing drums in rock and roll, blues and country bands causes tinnitus. So does listening to loud, loud music. especially with headphones. Not to mention gun fire, cannon fire and various explosions. Food, pfft. Talk about denial.

I've lived with tinnitus for 40+ years now.  I remember it's onset like it was yesterday.   Listening to a rock band while in my late teens, right in front of the speakers.  The ringing in my ears which I typically experienced and noticed while going to sleep that night did not subside by morning, as it had always had previously done.  It has been with me ever since.

That being said, I am glad that your tinnitus has cleared up for what ever the reason.  Having it initially caused me many years of mental anguish, until I learned to "accept it" and "live" with it.

The ringing will increase due to high BP, permanent ringing is from ear damage due to high SPL, it's why I keep my kids away from loud music..That's how I got my tinnitus , you can lower the level by watching your BP, salt et al raises your BP , hence the ringing ..

Sounds like the OP Never had tinny , the ringing was caused from elevated BP , his  diet change lowered his BP .. Hence no ringing ..

This makes sense to me though...whether real or imagined, mine seems to get a bit worse when my blood pressure is up or my blood sugar is high.  The ringing also appears to decrease a bit when I decrease my caffeine intake too.

My boss suffered earlier this year from a sudden onset of some sort of ringing in one ear, it nearly drove him (and all of us around him) literally crazy as he couldn't sleep.  Local specialist, major university hospital, Mayo, and a Turkish/Iranian (don't know which) hospital all said it wasn't Tinnitus.  He was going so nuts he wouldn't stay on any one medication long enough for them to work (he has history of ill-advised consumption of whatever pills/etc. from all kinds of people, dunno maybe that comes from his foreign cultural background).

It went away as fast as it came on.  With all the advise/pills he was taking who know what worked or if it will continue to stay away?

High-freqency nasties coming from certain tube amps - seems like KT88s and 6550s bother me the most - that my ears are particularly sensitive to. A bout of in-store listening sessions two years ago are when it all started. Hasn't stopped since.

Actually, it's been found that salt does not raise everyone's BP. It's only a percentage of the population (a minority, IIRC) that is so affected.
