Buyin 28bs-Faceplate decisions
« on: 1 May 2012, 11:55 pm »
Looks like I'm buying 28bs in the very near future. Have had the older 17" black  7bst and 19"c series silver 7bsst & 7bsst2. I'm really leaning towards the 17" with blue led, I have never seen the 28bs in person. What do you people think?

If I ever send them in for caps and trans, then I'll see if I can do the blu LED's also

What's always struck me as a bit strange is that there is no cost difference for the 17" vs the 19" with handles.  While it could be argued that there is not much cost difference for the 19" panel that is only 2" longer but still has to be machined and anodized, the beefy aluminum handles do cost, and the 17"-no-handle customer is paying for them anyway.

Since we're not talking about lightweight Class D amplifiers here, those handles sure would come in handy for moving them or jockeying them into position.  If I were to buy the rack version and not rack mount them or have the mounting holes otherwise covered, I would install matching allen truss head bolts and nuts though, as the naked mounting holes makes them look unfinished.

Bryston WAS going to charge extra for the wider faceplate and handles.. But changed their mind.
One huge point in favor of wide with handles.
Have you ever MOVED a big heavy amy without handles?
And one with?
I will personally take the handles every time.
It is a P.I.T.A. to move a heavy amp without handles.

And the handles make a big amp LOOK good. gives it 'balls'.
No handles it just looks like a big lump.

I actually have a new set of silver 17" faceplates that I purchased when I bought the amps. I like the simple clean lines of the 17" but I like the big beefy handles on the 28bs, much larger and more substantial than the 7b handles. I have decided to get the blue led maybe, even though everything else is green, but these are long term and they match my Martin Logan blue lighted logo on the Prodigies.

When did Bryston start offering blue LEDs? I thought that was something we would never see.
