Any thoughts on driving the nCores via a passive such as a Bent Audio/Slagle Autoformer? I seem to recall seeing an input Z spec (for non-balanced connection) of 100K. If so, the amps would be passive friendly (at least from Z matching aspect).

Dave, I believe Tom (macrojack) was doing so when he had a loaner pair. See the thread on the tour and listening thoughts in the Solid State circle.

What exactly are you paranoid about with the grounding?

I pray you don't own a soldering iron.

I'm wondering if it even meets NEC requirements, if not and it starts a fire no insurance company will cover your house, I mean a diy amp with improper grounding and you're on your own.

Please post pics of your solution.

I always put a fuse in my DIY gear, because of fire/insurance concerns.
I use ceramic fuses, and solder them in line, so I don't add any connections.  Glass fuses don't like solder.

I couldn't tell, but it does not look like Mike used a fuse in this amp?

BTW Mike, "Electrocution" was the best answer I've seen in a while.

The PS is fused.

Yep, love the "Electrocution" response!

Really? If you don't know how to connect a safety earth please don't build these, or anything else requiring mains power.

There is a fuse on the power supply, so that is not a concern. Like Randy I always use a fuse or circuit breaker. If there was not one on board I would have added one. Since the PS module is designed to be class 2 safe and is mounted per the prescribed requirements, it's likely safe per EU and NEC rules but I am still going to play it safe and add an a safety earth connection.

Thanks Randy,  could not think of anything more succinct or accurate. :)

As facilitator I am not sure if I am supposed to laugh but it's hard not to.
  :duh:

Rclark: you should take a few steps back. Build and learn, that's what I did. II basiclly learned the very little I know from here and DIYaudio.
Build a gainclone or the like. Maybe even a amp6 from 41hz. Also, remember that flavors of the month come and go. Some are better then others but they all get over hyped. Nobody has it all figured out no matter what they post on the webs.
Now back to Ncore which I can't wait for the first round of sell offs to scoop some up!

I am very excited to hear the NCore, but I know for sure that the first time I actually try to assemble something won't be with almost 2k worth of parts. I'll either try to assemble something cheaper first, or just pay someone to do it for me.

Oh jesus. I'll figure it out thanks.

I wasn't trying to be an ass. Playing with mains power is potentially fatal. A quick Google or other search will turn it up quick enough. Basically a safety earth is connecting the chassis to the safety earth terminal of the power line. I did not say ground, though ultimately this is connected to the physical ground/earth near the panel where the power enters your premises.

I did add these to my amps. As they say, a photo is worth a thousand words.

Thank you sir. Guessing that didn't affect the sound as you'd feared it might? I understand now why you say it might be a difficult mod.

Difficult "mod"?  I'm guessing this is sarcasm.  Nothing difficult about it - just potentially life saving.

Difficult, no, adding that is about as easy as it gets.

Sound wise, all seems well.
