WTB: Floor Standing Speakers -- <$750 shipped
« on: 9 Apr 2012, 02:08 am »
My parents are looking to buy a pair of pre-owned floor standing speakers for $750 or less shipped to 37055. I've searched the various audio boards and haven't found anything, so I'm reaching out to speaker collectors out there that may have a pair collecting dust. Please contact me at belmontjoe@gmail.com

Requirements:

1. Preferably (little leeway) less than 42" high (they don't want to cover light switches)
2. Preferably (little leeway) less than 9.5" wide (they don't want to cover windows, will be window--speaker--fireplace--speaker--window)
3. Sealed or front ported (no rear port due as they will be very close to a back wall)
4. Not too power hungry, will be running off a Denon 2310 receiver
5. Decent bass response due to now subwoofer

Have boxed pair of Elemental Designs A6 tower speakers. I believe they are front ported.  For an entry level speaker they are just fine.  List $500.  Yours for $300 plus shipping.   Used way less than a year so almost new.  In a year I went from these to Ascend Sierra's (+NrT upgrade) to Salk H2T-TL's.   The Sierra's are also for sale but shipping will exceeed your budget.  Email me if interested.  dap7777@hotmail.com

There are many 6.5" 2.5 way speakers that will fit this bill.
PSB Alpha Tower - 35 3/4 x 7 1/8 x 12 1/4
Monitor Audio BX6 - 39 1/2 x 9 1/4 x 13 3/4
Tanooy Revolution DC6T - 37.40 x 7.95 x 9.98” (there is a shallow 10" wide plinth but that is only below the speaker itself)
Paradigm Monitor 11 - 41-1/2 in x 7-7/8 in x 13-1/2 in a little over $750/pr retail
Dali's Ikon 6 Mk 2 a little over $750/pr retail
Wharfedale Diamond

Here are some advertised (not by me or anyone I know) right here on AudioCircle.  You might want to inquire as to their condition.  They are nearby to your parents...Bristol Motor Speedway area.....

linn keilidh's; ~32.5" tall x ~8"w x ~11"d.  besides being really nice sounding speakers, they are specifically designed to be placed 4"-12" from the rear wall; most speakers suffer in this location.

this seller says store pick-up only, but since they have had no sale and theire ad expires tomorrow, they may change their mind:

these - the kaber ls500's - are a bit over your budget; they seem to be the upgraded wersion of the keilidh; ~35.5"h x ~7.5"w x ~11"d

and these, even tho rear ported, can be wall mounted, so up against the wall is again not an issue; ~7"w x ~41"h x 6"d.  yust a little over budget, at asking price:

jonbee, who posts here, and who has owned hundreds of speakers over the years, really liked the keilidh's:
