My father wrote a hymn, "Life Forever" which was sung at his funeral service.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack, on her First Take album, 1969 - the year I graduated from college and met the love of my life - that song defined my feelings.

the mention of bob dylan makes me think of "tangled up in blue", from his blood on the tracks album.

another song that comes to mind is the waitresses' "christmas wrapping".

Tangled Up In Blue is one of my favorite songs, but I have to also throw in "All Along The Watch Tower" and "Knockin On Heavan's Door". I have always loved Jerry Jeff Walker's "Desperados Waiting For The Train."

Doug - Excellent nomination.  That song presents lightly but touches deeply.
I'll second that one ------- and add this: TIME from DSOTM by Pink Floyd. At my age, this song is very thought provoking. A lot of water under the bridge. How am I using the time I have left?

I'm not sure about tears with these recent recommendations but for me they are thought provoking and emotionally charged.

Jackson Browne - For a Dancer and Fountain of Sorrow have also touched my heart.

Looking back at these songs and considering the young age of the authors at the time, I'm amazed at the pithy nature of their lyrics and the profound depictions they offer.

The 1960s were a true renaissance . If only the spirit burned so bright in us codgers as it did in our younger selves. Where did all the light go?

Reeling In The Years
Never teared up exactly, but the feeling is there... One of those "takes-you-back" numbers for me

Observing here how differently people seem to experience music, explains for me how we all see equipment choices in different ways.

Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine

A cover, but undeniably beautiful.  Jeff Buckley was an awe-inspiring artist during his short life.

Is anybody going to nominate Glenn Campbell or Bette Midler? Maybe Dollie Parton or Wink Martindale?

Sorry - I don't really want to criticize but the saccharine is accumulating all around the schmaltz. I'm afraid it will cause a clog.

It's been a good topic....but, we could do without the few, more recent subjective interjections regarding slavery or card carrying this-or-that, thank you :nono:

Several posts were just removed and binned for these reasons.

rcag-ils.....not the first time you've pee'ed on a topic in The Vinyl Circle.  We have a very strict no politics rule at AC - please respect your fellow AC'ers alternative life views without citing yours here.

Back on track - here's something dating back to H.S. for me:

"Pleasures of the Harbor" by Phil Ochs

"Sully's Pail" by Tom Paxton
