Any Marantz Model 9 Owners Out There?
« on: 3 Mar 2012, 04:57 pm »
I'm a proud owner of a pair of VAC Reissue Model 9's and hope there are other owners out there of either the original's or the VAC's from 1997/1998.

I retubed my pair with NOS Mullard XF2's and currently have a nice quad of Amperex PQ 6922's (1960's) in the line stage.  The 6922's truly make the soundstage 3D.  I also have some 7308's that I roll in now and then, but they're near the end, but still perform very well indeed.

At some point I want to try some Pinch Waist CCa's as I here they can be magical, if you can find them that aren't too microphonic.

Here is the Marantz model 9:

and:

They had 70 watts per channel, RMS, 40 in triode mode.

Each power tube has it's own bias pot. Pretty neat amps, and pretty spendy by early 1960s dollars. Looks like they went for about $780 each.

Very cool!

THanks, maybe 1995 Marantz T1 will interest, four 300B in PushPull.

While they're rated at 70/40 in the real world are closer to 85/50 and have 3db of headroom.  I have no problem driving a pair of Magnepan 2.5's with them, albeit, I do have a pair of subs to take up some of the slack.
