Considering Cyclops Extreme/SE .. opinions please.
« on: 25 Feb 2012, 02:14 pm »
Hi guys. I'm considering a change and not sure about it so I'm hoping for some insight/opinions. My understanding is the Cyclops is basically a Khartago stereo amp with 1 input & volume control. Yes? The simplicity works for me & I would order it with the remote volume option.

My gear currently includes a PS Audio Trio A-100 amp, P-200 pre, & Magnepan MMG's. I've been pretty happy with the PS Audio gear but I'm itchy to try a more traditional type amp with the Maggies. The MMG's are a fairly new acquisition and I've only heard them with my class d amp. Will the Cyclops be a good match? Enough power & current for the Maggies? Thoughts? Thanks.

The Cyclops will be more than enough current and amperage for the MMG's.  I never heard a class d amp that I liked.  The treble seemed too forward to me.  I think the Cyclops will really make the speakers sing.

I run MMG's with the Candela/Stratos mix.  The Cyclops should be just fine.  Have you done any mods (crossover update) to the MMG's?

Thanks guys .. encouraging! I've read great things about Odyssey amps but I've not had the opportunity to hear them. Another thought I had was to get a Stratos amp and keep my current pre in place for now. For some reason though (perhaps synergy) the idea of a simple integrated really appeals to me. The MMG's are un-modded (so far).

To quote Tom Petty, "The waiting is the hardest part."  I ordered a Khartago Stereo Extreme amp/Tempest preamp a couple of weeks ago.  Can't wait for them to arrive.

All (of you) will be happy with the new toys.  I did upgrades on my four mono-Khartago's  last year to move them to
the Kismit goodies and my Tempest to the extreme version.

I need to get with Klaus about changing out the caps in my Kismets - I have the blue ones and I notice
the other Kismets have the black ones (sorry, forget their names).

You cannot go wrong with Klaus and Alex....they are habit forming!

Cheers!

My Monos extreme SE's are in to Klaus for the full Kismet upgrade- from what I understand 8 German Caps on the new black boards boards 4 off...upgraded wiring and WBT platinum connectors.  I'm interested to hear the improvement.  Will have to go through the break in period as I did 5 years ago when I originally purchased the extremes....I'll post my impressions.  Klaus has been a great person to do business with, I consider him and his wife a friend as I'm sure many of you do.  You're right Navy Doc..the waiting is the hardest part, not only to receive the new toys but the break in period is long also, with my original mono's it was well worth the wait.  8)

I wonder if a Cyclops could come with a headphone out?

BobC .. you should call Klaus about it, he's great to speak with. I asked about the remote control option and he said absolutely not, degrades the sound too much.

I know that you are in good hands with Klaus. I've purchased gear from him over the years and his customer service sets and maintains an admirable standard that others could do well to emulate.

To me, three weeks from time of order (with Klaus' well documented attention to detail including bench testing, etc.) is not even near the outer limits of normal business for quality audio gear transactions, esp. in-demand or more custom items - quality takes time. That being said, once you take delivery of the unit and get the required hours of burn in (I really like the Isotek disc for this), please post about the results of you critical listening - should be tons of fun in the near and distant future. Enjoy the journey.
