IKEA's Norden birch occasional table runs $199. Middle shelf is adjustable. Add the sliders to the feet and it's easy to move around when changing out your gear, cables, etc.

At 74" wide, the top shelf could accommodate four standard ~ 17" wide components or even a combination of 17" and 19" components.  It looks like the other two shelves could accommodate three components?
 
Also, from the specs the top shelf is 16-1/2" deep.  The other two shelves would have less depth.  What is the depth of those shleves?

Ikea is made for mail ordering.

Too bad my tiny $30 Ikea "nightstands" are no longer available.  It fits three 17 inch wide components, two on thick shelfs.  Wheels come off to make "spikes".

You'll notice a lack of components on mine as I'm in the build stage now. This was a DIY project (search flexirack) that uses Ikea countertops (24" depth cut back to 18") and 74" wide. There is no flex even with this large span and heavy plasma TV on. It is heavy though! Construction is very simple for "flexiracks"....just threaded rod and washers/nuts.

Travel time for the Mrs. & I 1-3/4 hour, each way. The closet IKEA to us is in Stoughton, MA ; I'm in NH. Was less expensive than having them ship it.

We looked at those (middle shelf was wicked flimsy), as well as the smaller Lack tables (we thought the Norden worked better for our needs; the drawers are nice to have, as well as three long shelves and real wood. It's nice having almost all the sources on the top shelf.)

I think that IKEA hack involves using a Lack side table's top for the base; you have extra legs in case you screwup cutting some of the others.

Sorry JLM, ref: NORDEN Occasional table, birch "Sorry, this product is not for sale on our website, check if it is available in your local store."  It was a nice idea though, most of their breakdown furniture is available mail order.

I took out my tape measure, well, it's already in the listening room, adjusting speaker placement, anyway, my components would fit easily on this table and I have an Ikea close by.  Just hard parting with my Lovan rack, I do love it so.  But the Norden table is very attractive, would go with my Ikea bookshelves, and the idea of draws is enticing.

This is inspiring.  For years I've wanted to build a flexy rack.  Using ikea countertops is a fantastic idea.  I've also looked into solid maple but dang that gets really expensive.  For the money, ikea sounds like a great plan.  Did they cut them for you or did you do it yourself?
