Stratos Ht-3 vs Stratos Stereo
« on: 15 Feb 2012, 09:11 pm »
Is the the HT3 in anyway a lesser amp then the Stratos stereo? Does the presence of a thrid channel in anyway degrade the sound if it were to be used for stereo duties?

If the third channel were simply drawing from the same power supply, the answer would probably be yes.  But because the specifications for the HT-3 list a second Plitron 400VA transformer and an extra 60,000uF capacitance, I think one would be unable to detect any audible difference (unless it was being compared to the Stereo Stratos Extreme).

Srb,

Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure how the power supply is configured...the ase ht3 has 120K capacitance versus the stereo versions 60K. I wonder if the center channel is getting the extra 60K or is it all ganged together. I did not notice the 2 transformers in the spec until you pointed that out. The picture only seems to show one but they could be stacked. In any case, what you say would make sense.
