Well, since I am getting dragged down here to visit relatives and get sand in everything, I might as well do something productive.

Any good used record/CD shops in the greater Miami area?  Doubt that I'll find much Folk, Celtic or New England Maritime music down here, but failing that, classic rock, or classical?

Good B&M audio shops?  There's a Maggie dealer in the area that I'll check to see if they have the 3.7s, and maybe buy some trinkets from them.

Thanks!

are you flying or driving down?

I don't know of any specific record stores in miami. if you are driving down there are some great record stores on the way. I know tampa has a huge store but i can't remember the name. Ft. Lauderdale has one too that i've never been to (i think its called radioactive records or something like that) but i've heard its good. Again, maybe someone else can post the names. Daytona has Atlantic Records. Yesterday and Today records is at the Jacksonville Flea Market in an airconditioned room. Great used selection and most records are in very good condition. Really worth checking out.

My local record store is SoundsGoodMusic in port st. lucie and is run by Andy. He's a stand up guy and its a nice shop.

I hope this helps.

I've been going to RadioActive a bit as I've been doing some consulting in Fort Lauderdale.

It's good, lot of faux hipsters, but they have some jazz and classical in the house.

A little pricier than where I shop at home, but not too outrageous.

It's just North of the Fort Lauderdale airport, so 30-45 mins drive from Miami, if you come up rt95 you want exit 29, the airport is exit 25.

Just made my first trip to Radioactive. A really nice selection of used records and most in very very good condition. Picked up a Gerry Mulligan record. Michael Brecker on mo fi. Miles Davis "seven steps". Tom Petty "Full Moon". That Paul Simon "saints" record i think it is. A couple of yes records. A Hunters and Collectors record for $2! and Waterboys "This is the Sea" though it skips on the title track (my favorite song  :x) because of the smallest of scratches. i'm really surprised by that one as it really doesnt look or feel deep or big.

all in all, a good store. had it all to my self that day. i will be going back.

Darn - I was eyeing that 7 Steps album, but had run out of room in my suitcase the last trip down.

As the OP, I'd be remiss if I didn't check it on my Miami LP hunt.

One night I headed to Radioactive, and either I got bad instructions or didn't LISTEN*, and couldn't find the place.

The next day got to the right place but had very little time, and came up empty.  Nice place, well organized, decent prices, and an eclectic selection, but I only had ten minutes and bailed out.

Next time I'll MAKE time.   :thumb:

how about this one....http://www.vintagerecords.com/

I was curious about the area where i used to live & found it doing a search.  never been there but it says it's been around for 30 yrs.  in the 70's when i lived in coconut grove i shopped at the happy note which also served as a head shop.  it was a great store as i remember.  up here in gainesville we still have 2 record stores thankfully.  a good friend (sharpe's music) just retired & closed his last year.

I might have to make it down to miami some day for yesterday and today records.

I was lucky enough to make it into Sharpe's for his last week of business. The heater had died and it was near freezing in there. I picked up a lot of cool stuff though. My favorite and most played though has to be a near mint copy of Paul Simon's Graceland. Its a shame he retired and that i only made it there once.

Which are the other 2 stores in gainesville? I visited one, can't remember the name, and came away w/ Pink Floyd's Division Bell on light blue vinyl! That was a great day.

Oh man, that sucks. I don't have GPS, but it was a fairly easy trip from ft. pierce. Can't remember if i took 95 or the TP but it was a fairly straight shot, took the exit a few miles, turned right and i was there. I think i'm going to go again next weekend.

BTW, if any of you drive through St. Lucie County be sure to stop by Sounds Good Music in port st. lucie. Its on PSL blvd.

hey joe, the other 2 shops in g'ville are Hyde & Zeke on NW 10th Ave & Hear Again (alot of new vinyl) downtown near the Hippodrome Theatre.  There are a bunch of thrift stores here that get some good vinyl & old audio gear in from time to time.  A buddy of mine just picked up an early 60's Eico tube amp, preamp & tuner in one of the thrift stores.  I'm still waiting for that Marantz 8b & Marantz 10 tuner to show up:)

in the area there's also Music Matters in St. Augustine which is always my first stop on the way to the beach & a used record/thrift/antique shop (can't remember the name) in Palatka in the old downtown area.

Geez, Hyde & Zeke is still around?! I don't suppose you've checked to see what kind of classical collection they've got, have you? I still get back to the Ville quite often. Thanks.

hey Bob...yeah Hyde & Zeke is still here w/the same owner although a different location than across from campus where it used to be.  I've been going there since '83.  As far as classical I wouldn't know anything about that genre but my guess is it's not the shop's forte.

I went to college at flagler so i definitely know music matters but they have just recently started moving into the vinyl business. i think that is really a response to the changing medium moving away from cd's to either downloads or vinyl.

there was a great little hole in the wall shop near the fusion restaraunt for a while. i don't know if they went out of business or just relocated but when i took a trip back up there it was gone and in its place a cigar shop (at least it wasnt replaced w/ something like a nail salon  :icon_lol:)

but for anyone up in the jax/st. augie area i really have to stress how great yesterday and today records is. its in the jax flea market and knowing that i wasnt expecting a whole lot but it really is something. the owners supply basically comes from the stock that his father kept when he decided to retire from the record store business. He has a lot of great stuff in very good condition.
