I think that if you send pictures to Linkwitz he'll fly over in person to measure and test this marvellous piece of work! No doubt this is the best looking version of the loudspeaker ever!!! :thumb:
It's almost a shame you made the wood side panels. If I were you I'd rethink them...

Prelude,

It seems that you are planning to deviate from Linkwitz' plans in regards to the mounting of the midrange driver. None of the ASP revisions were ever intended for your combination of rim mounted midrange and rear tweeter, because the midrange magnet mounting entered the design before the rear tweeter did.

Keep in mind that when Linkwitz implemented the magnet mounting of the midrange, he also made changes to the ASP to compensate for the rear bracket. These changes are probably quite small relative to potential sample to sample production variations in driver sensitivity, so they might not be all that significant, but you might want to take a closer look at entry #37 on the Orion support page.

I am SO IMMENSELY GLAD that mine doesn't really care, as long as things look good and professional, and we are still able to live in our place.

Let me join in the praise.

Years ago when I built my Linkwitz dipoles I investigated using aluminium, although my idea was the reverse of yours as I wanted the side panels made of metal.

Alas, it was too expensive.

Neil Kaye built aluminium Orions a while back and they are still my favourites aesthetically.

Fourth speaker down.

I'd be sorely tempted to ditch the wooden side panels and go all metal.

I agree theoretically with the comments about going straight to 3.4, but I still haven't gone beyond the original solo tweeter, although I have tried to incorporate much of the midrange and bass tweaks.

Kaye's aluminum speakers are certainly very nice, but his modifications might alter the polar response in some ways.

I think Prelude's Orions will be even nicer.   :D

I think the chosen combination of the metal and the warm wood will be very attractive indeed.

Here's a listening chair to match:

Limit is sky and no problem with anything at all. I was just kidding with you.
I think it goes with personal taste and selection of  natural wood has a big roll to play here also.

Coolbiz,
Not only I red all of them I also print them for myself.I would not use the magnet mounting in the first test of listening but I can not tell you that I would never do it. most likely it will take me a year to make sure where I would stop and enjoy the speakers but I appreciated for your reminding.

DIY on steroids... absolutely beautiful.  The Orions were one of my favorites at the 2010 RMAF so I am sure they sound as good as they look.
