1212 OTL-20 STEREO TUBE AMP - SOLD

I have too much equipment at the moment, and this piece is not getting much use.  I am, therefore, regrettably putting this amp up for sale since I need the space (physical dimensions are about 24” long by 18” wide) and have other things I am looking to purchase.

This is a high-quality small production OTL (output transformerless) stereo amplifier that uses 20 6AS7 type tubes to generate about 100 watts/ch into 8 ohms (or 75 watts/ch into 4 ohms).

Sound quality is excellent – every bit as good as a pair of Atma-Sphere M-60 Mk 1 amps that I have (and will be keeping).  The asking price is very fair for this amp, so don’t expect much (if any) movement.

Photos are a top view, front view, back view and “under the hood” view.

I have a manual which includes all operational information and circuit schematics.

Physically, the amp is painted a rust-brown color, and there are some rubbed spots. The biggest physical issue is that the top cover on the tube section is not cut exactly right, so the tubes do not sit in the center of the holes.

Operationally, the amp seems to function as intended except that the on/off switch does not seem to be working.  I am not sure if it is the on/off switch itself or an internal relay that the on/off switch seems to control.  There is, however, an easy alternative for powering on and off (an external relay power plug that you simply unplug).

The only modification to this amp that I am aware of is that some resistors have been changed (upped from 2 ohm to 10 ohm) on the power cap bank to drop the B+ voltage to the tubes.  I did that on strong recommendation from a couple of sources (for reliability reasons), although the original builder of this amp indicated that such change was not really necessary.

ONE NOTE OF WARNING – this is not a plug and play amp, and is not for the “feint of heart”.  I will NOT sell this amp to anyone with little or no electronics experience or experience using tube amps.  This amp draws a lot of current and generates a good bit of heat.  There are other eccentricities to this amp, for example, there is a set of internal fuses that need to be changed depending on the speaker impedance rating (I have fuses for 8 and 16 ohms).  This is a special amp, but it is not for everyone.

This amp will leave my hands in stable working shape as described above, but I expressly disclaim any responsibility for use (or misuse) of this amp after it leaves my possession.

The amp does come with a full set of tubes (20 6AS7, 2 12SN7GT and 2 12AT7), although it is a mixed group of different 6AS7 types.  This amp can use any 6AS7 type, including USA 6AS7G and 6080.  The amps also comes with the original relay power cord (which you need to turn the amp on and off), plus a basic computer grade main power cord (should the buyer so desire).

I will NOT ship this amp under any circumstances, so it is LOCAL SALE ONLY.  I am in Chadds Ford (PA) which is not too far from Philly and Wilmington DE.  To complete a local deal, I am willing to meet someone within a reasonable distance and (if at the asking price) I will throw in some extra 6AS7 types (USA made 6AS7G, 6AS7GA and 6080) and 12SN7 tubes.

I also have some other 12SN7 and 12AT7 types that I can include for an upcharge.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Please note that this amp is being sold ‘AS IS’.

I am willing to demo, which I would recommend prior to purchase.

As indicated above THIS IS FOR LOCAL SALE ONLY – I will not ship under any circumstances.

I can potentially take partial (or even full) trade value; however, my actual needs are very few.  I might be interested in certain vacuum tubes (45, 46, 47, 7591/7591A, KT90, M8162/CV4024, Siemens or TF ECC801s, 12AY7/6072/6072A, a larger group of tubes, or other tubes at the right value), a pair of higher-efficiency speakers (like Tekton Lore), SACD discs, or possibly other equipment or cables at the right value.  In any event, feel free to propose something, and I will respond to any serious proposal.

Cash is always welcome for a local transaction.  Payment can also be via money order/cashier’s check/personal check preferred but, except for US Postal Money Orders, all must clear my bank first.

I also accept Paypal for convenience, but add 3% to use of Paypal.  IF YOU PAY VIA PAYPAL, HOWEVER, A CONDITION OF YOUR PAYMENT IS THAT YOU EXPRESSLY WAIVE THE RIGHT TO FILE A PAYPAL CLAIM OR CHARGE BACK (but do retain the right to sue me in court should you so desire).

Please check my feedback on Audiogon, Videogon and Ebay (ID=baileyler) and buy with confidence.

Another bump.

Listened to this amp a couple of times over the last week, and if it does not sell soon then I may just keep it and sell off my Atma-Spheres (can't keep them both).

If it wasn't for the large footprint factor, I would have already changed my mind.

Feb. 1 bump.

Listing my Atma-Sphere amps as well.  If those sell, I will be keeping this amp (and vice versa).
