Someone mentioned two HDMIs.  Is there an advantage going straight to the TV with the other HDMI going to the AVR even if the AVR is just a pass-through?  Thx.

Where 2 HDMI helps is when the AVR can process Dolby Tru HD or DTS HD, but cannot process 3D video.   That way, one HDMI can process the audio via the AVR, while the other can go directly to the 3D TV.

SACD is copy protected.  If you have a hybrid SACD, you can play the CD layer through the digital outs but not the SACD layer.

okay, then, the answer is "no": I cannot play a SACD only (without a CD layer) into the two channel output in both oppo 93 and 95 players.  Right?

So if my AVR can process 3D, there is no benefit to the 2nd HDMI, right?  Actually, what does "process" mean in this case?  My AVR has 3D pass-through.  So I don't think any processing is happening.

BTW, I have the OPPO-93.  Just received it about a week ago.  Very nice piece.  You can tell that OPPO is a classy, quality-driven organization.

One interesting note, at least to me, was that I loaded a DVD that I had stopped the night before and I removed it from the player.  It went back to where I had stopped the DVD, as if I had hit pause and never removed the disk.  I haven't tested this out to see if this is supposed to happen or not but I like it!!

Essentially, pass through and process is the same as far the discussion goes.

Yes, the player is designed to "pick up where it left off". It's one of the settings in the setup menu.

I'm a big fan of Oppo players. They truly provide the best bang for the buck, IMHO.

As good as they are, getting the audio section upgraded by Modwright elevates the player to reference level performance at a reasonable price point.

You asked two questions:

"Can the Oppo BDP 95 play a SACD or into the two channel stereo audio out?

Can the Oppo BDP 93 play a SACD into the two channel stereo through digital outputs? "

SACD can be played from the analog stereo outputs.  Except for HDMI outs, SACD cannot be played via digital outputs.  If your receiver or processor has DSD decoding you can pass the output via HDMI digitally from the Oppo players.  If you receiver or processor does not have DSD decoding, but has HDMI, you can convert the SACD via the appropriate menu selection to PCM (24/88.2) and pass it to the receiver or processor via HDMI.

Thank you for the clarification.

As for audio, I already have a dedicated, reference set-up for music.  If I was starting over, I would be taking a long look at the OPPO.  The reviews are superlative on the BDP 95.

Enjoy!!

Believe it or not, once the Oppo is upgraded by Modwright, it will equal or surpass just about any player or transport/DAC available.  For 2 channel, the tube mod is the way to go.

Have not heard the BDP-95 Modwright mod.  I do have a solid state Modwright (solid state) modded BDP-83 but prefer taking the HDMI out of the BDP-83 into an HDMI audio de-embedder (vs the modded player's analog outs) which strips out the audio and sends it to a coax output which goes into a coax input of my Bryston DAC (into a Modwright LS36.5DM preamp).  Would love to hear the tube BDP-95 mod.

Freo-1, I have a high-end, as in expensive, CD player already.  Though the OPPO might be better, I can't afford to make a change.  Besides, I must admit that I love the sound of my player.  It is suh-weet!  I use a tube preamp and a solid state amp.

No worries!   :thumb:

I still have one of those expensive CD units as well I still occasionly use (and enjoy).   The main purpose of the post was to alert others as to the the Oppo for use as a CD/SACD/DVD Audio player potential.

Phil, sounds interesting.  Will look into that.

I also have a BD-83SE Nuforce unit with the full solid state mod (plus XLR), and the sound from that is fantastic.  It (from a overall standpoint) performs slightly better than the Eastern Electric Mini Max DAC plus.  I moved it to my HT rig, and sent the 95 to Dan for the tube mod.

The de-embedder I use is Monoprice Product ID 5557.  It is under $44.  I use it with an upgraded power supply (anything that works with the Squeezebox Touch - I have one of those too).
